There's something special going on.

If true, that is clever. Their use of social media this year has been nothing short of excellent as well. I've commented numerous times on how effective I think their strategy has been on that.

I'm guilting of wanting results that are in lock step throughout the year and along with everyone else.

I'm just not ready to give them a huge pat on the back after four commits. I do think they are working hard at it.
This is actually something I can agree with. I appreciate that you recognize the positives in what is going on SO FAR... I also won't begrudge you for not giving them a huge pat on the back just yet either... Many of us are ready to do that, but I have no problem with those who aren't completely there yet. The difference is between this post and previous posts you have posted, imo, is that you are acknowledging hard work and the possibility that it could be special.

Thanks for this post...

It really is amazing looking back at old threads and some of the predictions, including my own. Also amazing how the talking points and excuses changed throughout the year as it unfolded.
Can't we just call this what it is?
We have some great recruits who have a lot of potential, the coaching staff sells Nebraska well, the class could end up being great. You can't hate momentum, you have to ride it.
But,
There is a lot of recruiting yet to be done and the cycle is not a foregone conclusion of greatness or failure either way. We need to see better results on the field--6-7 happened, it was real, and it shouldn't have happened. If it happens again it will be tough to have a good class. (on the other hand, if we find a way to win 10 games next year-which I'm not predicting, but if it happens-then look the F out on the recruiting front)
We've done well this cycle, we need to continue doing well in the future for it to actually be worth more than hype. We tried hype last year, and in some years before that.
History has shown that calm and guarded confidence is a good mentality to have.

I sincerely hope your right and with right players but picking 4 or 5 decent years when he started in 1998 I believe is cherry picking. Great players always make coaches better (Bo in 2009-11), mcbride (1992-1997). We live in a what have u done lately world and last 5 years he has struggled, period. I love this discussion though and your arguments are dually noted and enlightening-- and again I HOPE you are right and I am wrong!!

I won't try to sell you a load of goods on Mark Banker. He may work out, he may not. I tend to think he will guide Nebraska to an above average defensive product, and ultimately, Nebraska could do better.

However, my initial argument was really just refuting the comparison between Banker and Cosgrove. Hindsight is 20/20, and it allows us to look back on the mistakes of the past. The difference between Banker and Cosgrove is substantial. The game had passed Cosgrove by when he took the job at Nebraska. Banker has spent the last decade coaching defense in one of the most up tempo, high octane offensive conferences in the country.

Bringing Kevin Cosgrove into the Big 12 conference in 2004 is like going into a World Conflict with the French as your only ally.

Nebraska should BE one of the 'big boys'.. the delusion on this site is sickening as to how far standards have fallen. They got 4 freaking recruits, currently ranked behind Iowa and Wisconsin. The recruits are good, but a lot people need to have their freaking heads examined.
Obviously looking into your Magic Mirror. Hope you can stay positive and enjoy better things. Whats the point ; to start every year/ day pointing out we could lose the National title game on a run pass option?

So your Mike Riley? Seriously, the coaches get it.

We'll see.... Great discussion and debate and good god I hope your right (I don't want to go through another athletic director and head coach change/buyout)!! Do we really need more ex-coaches on the payroll?

For objective comparison purposes throwing out transition year classes if I recall correctly Bo's average class rank was 22-23 with a high water mark of 14.

RIley has a class rank of 25 on the books.

Good info. Is the 2016 class a transition year?

It's big for Cali kids. Especially landing Keyshawn a few weeks ago now another elite Cali talent, it gets the rest of us intrigued to see what's going on over in Nebraska. When Tristan committed Key texted me and said 'you're next!' so that got me a little more interested to see what all the hype is about.
