really interesting stuff today from The Athletic where they analyze the past 11 draft classes by school and star ranking out of high school

some tidbits:

of our 67 4-star signees, only 3 (!) went on to be drafted. worst in the country by a million miles at a mere 4.5%. next is tennessee at 9.5%.

texas and ou blow at developing their 5-stars into draftees. of their combined 29 blue chippers, only 7 went on to be drafted.

ohiost, LSU, bama and florida are most adept at turning their 3-stars into NFL draft guys, each hovering at around 20% success rate

Boston College of all programs produces the most draft picks relative their recruiting rankings, and the ACC as a whole does the best at turning their players into pros

Obviously development was terrible, but I think lazy recruiting led us to recruit a bunch of flawed 4 stars that other programs backed off for whatever reason.
That and rolling with damaged goods, hoping they will return to form. Some injuries are severe enough that it never happens.

It’s true not all 4-stars are create equal

But even our highest rated 4-star kids have had very little impact over the past decade-plus
