How I read it was he informed Wisconsin he was entering the portal before the date and they refused to put him in. They can’t do that . The issue was they claimed he signed a Revenue sharing agreement so that is why the refused. . It wasn’t as clear cut as he just left after the portal was closed.I don’t know if has officially been resolved.

I think that makes total sense. If players want unrestricted rights to quit and transfer as they wish, just like any student can come and go as they please, they cannot accept the additional money. There should also be restrictions that come with NIL deals. No money given up front.
So… not just like any student (or coach/admin)

In fairness though - what does cancelling the spring game and weaseling out of the Tennessee show you? It is a huge hit to the fans because we are getting Northern Iowa instead. Adding a home game because they know the fans will still show up so they see it as adding fan “value”.
I could kind of get my head around the spring game televised scrimmage. The TN backing out is indefensible. The combination of both is an atrociously bad look.
I’m sure the players are equally disheartened because it s a direct reflection of our admin and where they think we will be a year from now. I would be pissed if I was them.
Boo-hoo … We have to play tough games in 2026 - if our trajectory is what Rhule keeps saying it should be we should be lining up and battling anyone. But we are ducking a team we had previously committed to. That’s a bitch move in nearly any context and we do it on a national stage. Any PR around our justification of cancelling is just putting lipstick on a pig.
Exactly, there is going to be some good scrimmages during the spring but we won’t get to witness them.
During the Osborne/Solich era I remember going to Lincoln to watch them scrimmage on Saturday’s prior to the spring game. Loved how TO ran the scrimmage’s very competitive..
One of the most competitive was watching Crouch and Newcomb battle it out during the spring.
Damn, can't the University come up with a sort of fan day where players and coaches have stations in Memorial Stadium, the indoor facilities, the other outdoor field? They could have no pad 7 on 7 drills, punting and kicking contests amongst the players AND coaches. If you don't want to play a scrimmage game, fine, but make it a big deal for fans, players, and coaches without worrying about how it would be scouted!
I haven't paid much attention this year to the spring game news once they announced, but maybe they are already going to do some fan and player friendly things, be a shame to waste a nice day to not have anything go on. Just my two cents.

We are ducking a team that backed out of dates with us in the decade prior so that they had an opportunity to play VaTech at the Bristol speedway, then refused to return the favor to NU.
Good point they canceled one series over one game against Virginia Tech..
Following year they played Ga Tech, Indiana St, U Mass and Southern Missi.
We went in to play Oregon home and away.
Again this is a cop out excuse. When's the last time we had a standout in the spring game propel himself to be the starting caliber when it wasn't already expected of him? I can't think of a single instance in the entire history that the spring game has been played. Our entire two deep is already taken care of with NIL, so it would have to be somebody more unexpected than that.

OSU . Texas and USC have also canceled the spring game for the same reasons as Rhule . And how do you know that everyone in the two deep is already taken care off and completely satisfied with their NIL? Oh wait you don’t.
Every time Sean Callahan brings up Dowdell, he mentions how Kentucky basically bought him with an offer that was way too good to turn down, even though he had just agreed to an enhanced NIL with NU.
I really don’t need a scoreboard for the spring “game”. I think it’s kind of paranoid to be that worried about a scholarship player getting poached. Look at the number of guys who have had great spring scrimmages who never played meaningful snaps during the season. I think maybe at least this spring the walk ons if nothing else deserve to be able to put something on video to try to find a home. Maybe they’re doing that for guys they know they’re cutting with practice video.

No, not at all. In order for Nebraska to "succeed" as a program going forward they need to be one of the top developmental programs in the country, which means that yes, if Nebraska has coached and developed players at the level they need to be in order for Nebraska to compete with the top of the conference/country then there will be "standouts" in the spring game.
Secondly, you're assumption of what a standout is to you, isn't necessarily what a standout is to professional scouts. Stats in a spring game is not what any scout is going to use as the predominant scale of measure to evaluate talent.

I agree with your first point. Second, don't assume things for me that I didn't assume myself. I'm essentially a professional scout myself and can discern good film from bad. Your third point is just stupid and irrelevant.
Again, we've already taken care of all the players we expect to be standouts, in the spring game, or any game for that matter. If a team wants to come in and overpay for a guy like Dowdell, then fine just let them, it's no big loss at all. We've already well taken care of most every player that we would want to.
I'm honestly much more worried about the opposite problem. We pay a guy a ton of money and he comes into the spring game playing like monkey's ass. I'd be more worried about how we could offload a guy like that, than worry about an essentially non-existent problem.

The point you're missing is that just because a player is getting NIL money from us, that doesn't mean they are necessarily maxed out versus what they can get from other schools. You can't just assume every player who might take a more lucrative offer from another program is overrated like Dowdell. Could just be that a program outbids us for their services, good player or bad.
You're right. The college football players of today, getting hundreds of thousands of dollars for something 99.9% of us did for free, are getting "punished" if they cannot come and go as they please. How dare we hold them to any sort of standard. Next thing you know, we'll start treating them like NFL players who have evil things like "contracts" and get drafted out of college where a franchise holds their rights for up to five years.

I don't miss any point. I think we're paying fair value or slightly above to all of our players. So if a team wants to come in and start a bidding war, based on a spring game of all things, there's a very high chance that they are overpaying.
This is a complete non-issue and Rhule and company are being pussies about it and giving the fans an FU in the process.

If that's where the season is heading I'd bet money the AD will be putting out feelers to see what his options are.

There's no way that Rhule will be fired if he goes 7-5 next year. The year after that, possibly. But not after his third year.
7-5 or 6-6 won’t get Rhule fired. But it will put him squarely on the hot seat in year 4.
It ain’t over paying if the person buying doesn’t care. Pretty much every school in D1 is already overpaying for most of their players. And the cost of getting good players is just gonna keep going up until it’s regulated. OSU doesn’t care if doubling a kids NIL deal is “overpaying” by someone else’s standards. They’re gonna do whatever it takes to win, and other people’s money is of little concern to them.
