at OSU? Urban is not a happy camper about his offense and there's a bunch of people that think the new OC is not helping Barrett.

Urban runs that offense, when it gets tough he goes QB run, always has always will. I would bet dollars to donuts that he overrode Wilson on more than one occasion in the OU game.
All Nebraska fans of a certain age should know well the limitations of the option offense against fast defenses. Doesn't matter who is calling the plays sometimes.

Its not just Barrett, it's every QB he has had from Alex Smith to JT.
Really? Interesting. When I lived in Orlando I noticed it with Tebow, I just figured it was because of his limited skills through the air, but then I watched film of Alex Smith at Utah and it was similar.
I seem to recall Smith being pretty good at Utah but I may not be remembering correctly. It was good enough to get drafted early.
He was damn good, but would you believe that he had more rushing attempts in both of his 2 years as a starter at Utah then Tommie Frazier had in any one season Nebraska?

obviously Frazier was a better runner, but the actual attempts is what I am comparing.
zone read option versus a traditional option usually makes for more qB attempts I believe. Didn't they run up tempo then too?
It's the same offense he has always run. That's him. Not sure about the read option vs traditional option, that research would have to be done by someone with a lot more time than I do. But I am not sure that is a true statement.
In any option offense, it's designed to put the defender in conflict and force them to pick one or the other. I think it also depends on the QB, when Beck had Kellogg he ran the zone read and never kept it.
Well in the zone read IF you run it you've got 2 choices. The QB or the RB normally. In Tom's offense you had fullbacks getting carries and sometimes WRs or wingbacks getting carries on reverses. IF in fact they ran an up tempo offense at Utah back then you could probably increase the number of touches by a third pretty easily. Their offense as I recall was also on the filed a bunch against some crappy competition trying to run up scores to try to get the attention of pollsters for national title consideration. I think TF spent a good deal of the 4th quarter on the bench in many if not most of our games not to mention his injury problems. Even when TF was healthy Berringer played quite a bit.
Tell you what give me a list of your 5 best zone read QBs and 5 best option QBs and I will research those. Because right now you are just giving possible scenarios that would support your position.
No, I said that Meyer has always used his QB in the run game when it got tough. Then compared the number of times a player drafted number 1 overall ran the ball in Urban Meyer offense to a guy that is perceived to be a guy that was a great runner of the ball in an option offense. The average person wouldn't think Alex Smith ran the ball more times per year than Tommie Frazier did.

I remember people complaining about Meyer for that reason. I also know for a fact that Berringer took a lot of snaps away from TF. Holloway (might have spelled it wrong) Mildren for OU.
Yeah Holloway was good and Mildren was more of a tough guy as I recall but he ran the option well. Mildren was kind of like Tagge IMO. There has to be somebody else I'm forgetting from OU. Lott killed us.
The biggest problem is the lack of a vertical passing game. Barrett isn't very good in this aspect. It was a blessing in disguise he got hurt a couple years ago. Jones was much better at getting the ball deep down field plus. It complimented the run game well.
I don't remember Bradley. Those names sound like the guys with em were a little too melanin deficient to be on the list.
I joke. Tagge, Gdowski and Quinn were all very good option QBs but there weren't the threat to take it to the house that guys like Lott, TF, TG and Holloway were.
Geez how could I forget Crouch but his numbers were skewed by Frank's play calling. I still smile when I think about his answer on why Frank called so many "QB draws". He said (and I paraphrase), "I used to come up to the line and say this play and the audible option won't work so I would just say screw it and take off". Frank got so much crap for the number of QB draws he called when in reality it was often apparently just Crouch trying to make a play.
Watson's got another OC job. Pitt maybe. He needs to find a better head coach to hitch his wagon to.
Eric and his wife sat about 6 or 7 rows behind us in Eugene...Jeez he looks small after his playing days.
Alex Smith didn't have LP, Aman Green either not to mention our pipeline.
Wouldn't that have increased his rushes? I would do everything in my power to keep the ball from going to those running backs on the option.

Most of our QBs and some of our RBs look a lot smaller in person. Good heavens Jim Pillen played monster back and he's a pretty small guy. Had beer next to TG in PO Pears back in the day and he was not a big guy at all. I'm no hulk and I thought I was a couple of inches taller than him and he was not all that ripped. Same deal with Lucky. He was really small. LP and Ahman not so much.

Crouch was hardly a huge guy to begin with. Maybe 5'11" 185 when he played. Makes some of the things he did running the ball all that more impressive.
Another guy I was shocked at seeing in person was Cory Ross. They didn't list him all that big, but I couldn't believe he was a running back when I saw him in person. The nickname "Pork Chop" was very fitting. Weight seemingly in all the wrong places. But he was a hell of a running back when he got his chance.
Ross had tremendous lateral quickness and burst for as thick as he was. Hard to tackle and tough as heck. I was sitting right behind the goal post in one game where he literally jumped 3-4 yards to his right to hit a hole square without losing forward momentum. Unbelievable move.
