PC Notes Jalyn Gramstad our #2 QB for the bowl

Be interesting seeing how much he helps the TE room..

Go move in my opinion, he isn’t good enough at QB winning games in this conference..
He won some games last year as a QB. He's good enough to win games but not as a drop back passer. We would need to use a lot more QB option run in our offense and I don't think that's what Dana wants.

Different offense this year, last year we had no choice..

Why? Haarberg is not going to win us the game any more than Gramsted IMO. Never EVER been impressed with his running or his throwing. However I do think he may be a good TE
I was 16 rows up watching him run the offense trying to stage a comeback to win a game this year. He looked pretty damned good. The point is, I believe he's a better option than the walk on. IF we're in a close game the last thing I want to see is a guy who has never taken a D-1 snap in a game.

-Congrats to guys who were honored for their academics, including Bryce Benhart who was Academic All-Big Ten for the fifth time.-Will hire a new secondary coach. Interviews happening now.-To be great moving forward on third down against the great teams that can throw the ball, need some advanced coverage and packages. John Butler helped with one of those in the NFL for multiple years.-Phil Snow is not officially hired so Rhule can't officially comment on him, but says the role of an elder statesman on the staff is essential. Wants someone to be big picture for the defense while DC focuses on game planning and day to day.-Having experienced guys as AHC and coordinators frees up Rhule to run the entirety of the program.-This month is important for the offense but January-August will be essential for the receivers and Dylan Raiola to make a big jump under Dana Holgorsen.-"You're only a great coach when you have great quarterback play."-"We have to make a major jump offensively."-No amount of turnover with the roster scares Rhule as they're operating under 365 days of player free agency.-Nate Boerkircher left amicably. Rhule wishes he would play in the bowl game but he has a good opportunity to make some NIL money via the portal.-Some players who go in the portal can come back and others can't due to fit.-"I'd be open to Nate coming back."-Heinrich Haarberg will be available as a QB if needed for the bowl game but has transitioned to the TE role while being versatile in where he lines up.-Will operate next week like it is a game week then get to the bowl site on Monday the 23rd.-Not ever going to say anything negative about guys that leave but sometimes those departures have to happen because they aren't a great fit, be that players or staff.-Really likes this transition time and the "perceived chaos" with roster and staff changes.-"We're embracing everything" with the portal.-Rhule is personally paying for some recent graduates to fly to New York City for the bowl game.

IF Dylan goes down to injury and we're in the game, they damned well better play Haarberg at QB.
Just speculating here, but maybe they like what Gramstad can do. It's quite possible that Gramstad is more accurate with a lot of the passes Dana would ask a backup QB to be able to make. In other words, they want to keep running what they run with Dylan instead of switching out to what they typically do with HH.

Malachi Nelson enters the profile again. Whatever anyone might think of DR's perceived gression (pro or re) this year, have to be grateful that he has turned out better than Nelson. In fact 3 of the Top 5 QBs from the preceding class (Nelson, Jackson Arnold and Dante Moore) have already hit the portal at least once.
