I think it also depends on the QB, when Beck had Kellogg he ran the zone read and never kept it.

Wasn't much of a threat even if the backside defender crashes down, helps to have some wheels with those plays. I'd say it depends on the QB for sure but a read is a read.

I'm still not convinced many of what we ran were actually "reads" either way. They were designed handoff or keeps.

Right and some of these plays that look similar might not be a zone read at all.
