It's the right move. Kudos to the administration.
Shocker.
November 1 rolls around and he will be named permanent AD.
He's fine as interim but, as Tuco stated, there is probably a good chance that he will end up as permanent AD, which I think is a big mistake.I am not sure how I feel about this. He knows how to raise money (runs a charity), but is that what the athletic department needs right now? Does anybody have an opinion that doesn't consider being a Nebraska legend as a reason for hiring somebody?
Agree. This has the stench of TO all over it. Time to move outside the family and find an proven AD with a track record of excellence. We are settling once again.Reeks of a croney move
Disagree. He loves his current job and has no desire to leave it permanently. There would be no need for a search committee if he was interested in the permanent role.
I might agree if this was the permanent AD, but he has been hired as interim.Agree. This has the stench of TO all over it. Time to move outside the family and find an proven AD with a track record of excellence. We are settling once again.
That worked well last time with Eichorst and Riley. It's time to have a Nebraska guy back in charge of our athletics who understands the culture and go get Frost. This helps the chances of getting Frost in a big way.Agree. This has the stench of TO all over it. Time to move outside the family and find an proven AD with a track record of excellence. I'm not sure that you could get two Husker fans to agree on what the culture is. Our critical need right now is to get an AD who can hire quality coaches, not just for football. To do that it helps enormously if you have contacts with agents, other ADs, etc., and know how the process works to determine interest and set up informal lines of communication. Rimington has admitted that he has no experience in this area. That worked well last time with Eichorst and Riley. There's potentially more to this story. Don't make assumptions.
Maybe his experience of fund raising gets us the huge dollar amount needed to get the Big time hire they want. There's potentially more to this story. Don't make assumptions.
stench...what a creep..Agree. This has the stench of TO all over it. Time to move outside the family and find an proven AD with a track record of excellence. We are settling once again.
Lack of money has never been a factor in our coaching hires, TO's penny-pinching has been.Maybe his experience of fund raising gets us the huge dollar amount needed to get the Big time hire they want.
Sharp and Benning were talking about bringing back "old corn" to run NU Athletics. I'm curious from guys like Tuco and CoachDubs,
Rimington greater than less than equal to a old corn guy like Alberts?
There are guys like Ed Stewart that have stayed within the scope of operating around Power 5 athletic programs

He IS a very smart guy. A very good guy. He knows how to run an organization, is a proven executive, is a proven fund raiser (very important as an AD), and is an effective communicator. IMO, having previous experience as an AD may be a bit over rated when it comes to NU's job. I'm fine with him if that is who Bounds and the Regents wants. IMO, maybe he can finally put the stench of Pederson, Callahan and Pelini behind us.I always liked him. His interviews even as a young player were good.
He's a smart guy. Never forget him changing the blocking scheme in the huddle to beat Missouri 6-0 after 5 failed field goals in 1982. LOL
Yeah, let's go outside the family and get somebody from WisconsinAgree. This has the stench of TO all over it. Time to move outside the family and find an proven AD with a track record of excellence. We are settling once again.
Yes there would be a reason. People hated the fact that Eichorst went solo on the head coaching hire. This is PR 101.
He wanted the job when Eichorst was hired. He stated as much.

And I love the fans on this board who are quick to assume whether hiring him would be a success or failure. It seems there's a wealth of talent right here on this board who can make all these big decisions for a multi-million dollar department.

I agree, but some people tend to state their opinions with a little more certainty than others. It is one thing to say "I hope we look at all options instead of simply settling for a guy because he's a Nebraskan" vs. "This is a huge mistake."This board is all about OPINIONS. Without them there is no board.
