Recruiting updates 2023-24

Who was the last player from Omaha Central who actually lived up to the hype here? Cortney Grixby? Seems like most have been busts or were overrated. Daishon Neal, David Horne, Brandon Teamer, Mark LeFlore, DJ Jones. I remember all of them being very highly rated prospects out of high school, but not accomplishing much here.

What’s going on in your life right now? You’ve never really been a ray of sunshine, but this is bad, even for you. If it helps, I’ll be praying for you.

Probably has ainsworth in his sights next. When was the last time a player from ainsworth panned out? I’m guessing decades…
Carter is a once in a generational type talent. I read Saban has never recruited an 8 man football player before Carter. That says a lot right there. He's a 5 star talent for sure.

That's nice, but a lot of people said the exact same thing in the summer of 2018.
What interesting is that Rhule will have 21 recruits before July 1 (assuming Carter is N).

Number of recruits Frost had by July 1:
Calss of 2018: 4
Class of 2019: 10
Class of 2020: 6
Class of 2021: 8
Class of 2022: 5

We'll see if filling up a class this early is beneficial or not, but I'm guessing it'll be much more beneficial.

Put in the hard recruiting work now so you don't have to worry about it once the season starts. You can focus more of your attention on the season rather than trying to do both at the same time.

Then half of Frost's recruits either transferred out or quit.😞Rhule has a big rebuild ahead for sure.

I'm just pointing out that I would not be disappointed in losing Pyfrom, as Omaha Central players have rarely panned out here (since Ahman Green anyway). Several of them were dismissed for off-the-field issues. It's definitely a program that has gone downhill. I don't think they've even made the playoffs in almost 10 years.

And in an hour when we land soon to be 5 star Carter Nelson what's going to be your bitch about that?

I've never said anything negative about Carter Nelson. In fact, I find it remarkable that a kid from one of the most areas in the country has been recruited by some of the best programs in the country. That shows what a great athlete he is.

I am not, however, concerned about losing 3-star prospects that few other top programs want.

Not so worried about LB's because of all the big DB's who will add weight and can play LB. DT like Carlon Jones would be nice. A big body Jason Macijaicak just moved to D line so that helps. Also have Tyson Terry N for next years class.

We also took a bunch of DL last year:

Just signed 8 d lineman last year and two moved from TE to DE. So 10 d line total added last year and we have no seniors.

DT
Jeudy
Carroll-Jackson
Maciejczak
Lefotu
Van Poppel

DE
Rollins
Wallin
Tagaloa
Umanmielen
Lenhardt

I mean, that could still happen to Rhule so we'll see. But the optimism in me says he's recruiting these boys differently than how Frost did so we won't lose a bunch of players after <1 season.

One thing I will say is that I really like about this coaching staff is that they clearly trust their evaluations with who they're recruiting. They're finding guys with the measurables to play at the next level and trusting that they can teach them how to maximize their skillsets. I like that confidence a lot and the fact they're getting guys they want now, not waiting until the last minute scramble.

Obviously, given the head man's track record of putting those types of players into the pros, it gives me confidence that they know what they're looking for and are aggressive about closing when they find someone they liked - regardless of who is recruiting that player. Finding guys who fit the culture they're wanting to build while also possessing the measurables they're seeking.
