Recruiting updates 2023-24

There is nothing "Doom and Gloom" about pointing out that Frost said the same thing about everyone pulling in the same direction. A few bad losses can change things in a hurry.

Getting this hyped up about a bunch of 3-star recruits with few Power 5 offers is a bit strange. Let's see some results on the field first.

I understand the hesitation and not wanting to fully drink the kool-aid.

Some of these recruits may only be 3 stars but when you look at their athletic profiles, it's clear they have the athleticism to potentially become good football players with good coaching and player development. Rhule has preached player development as being key since the introduction press conference so you have to trust that his staff is focused on that.

Right now we see them recruiting to a plan of getting guys with insane athleticism and trusting that they can teach them how to be good football players. Given his history of program building, I like seeing them adhere to a blueprint that translates given that Nebraska football has largely been irrelevant for a majority of the last decade so the big boy recruits aren't necessarily going to be knocking on the door to join.

Rhule and his staff have shown they can win recruiting battles in the transfer portal so I think the emphasis is on finding a mix of high level impact transfers while allowing the raw prospects time to develop. Hopefully as Nebraska becomes successful, the doors to the higher rated recruits start opening when they can see actual player development taking place. It will take time though.

I don't believe this is a quick fix job due to sucking for most of the last decade. I have very minimal expectations for this upcoming season and want to see them implement their plan to build back up. So far I think they've done a good job with that and hope to continue to see them active in the transfer portal until their high school recruits have developed to start winning jobs. But if nothing else, at least they are increasing the team speed and hopefully they are good enough coaching wise to turn these raw prospects into legit players.

Some also forget that we haven't done shit in 6 or 7 years. Longest bowl drought in CFB currently. Frost and Moos and Riley and Eichorst have dropped us into the shitter. Some NU fans act like we are still the big dick swingers from the 90's and are above some of these recruits. Newsflash. We're not. We need a full rebuild and overhaul and that's what Rhule and the gang are doing.

I am with you. And I can see both sides of the optimism and guardedness about drinking koolaid like we have done the past 4 hires.
And looking at other top 15 schools, there’s no way we are even close on paper. Some schools have 12+ four and five star guys already.
That said, this is a build. We are locking down our border. Even our unranked or low 3 star or 2 star guys have speed to burn.
I am not going to fool myself here, but I do like the class and think it could punch above its weight class.
The only thing I have seen so far is the spring game, and based on that, I am excited for the future. Better schemes than we had, guys flying around… and just in a month or so worth of practices. Imagine after a whole season.
If we get Carter, land Lacy, and a few of the others, I’ll be pleased.
Clearly the coaches are going to move non performers, we will have to have maybe 14-15 guys move on in addition to the 11 seniors on the roster this year to make room for the 2024 class. So, good times ahead.

So, close out with who?…..
Campbell
Carter
Brix?
Clark
Guthrie
Anderson

Did I miss anyone? Would love to also snag an inside LB

I think we could also take a couple more DL (Anderson and Jones). We are still in it for Massey and Pyfrom too on the OL. Also, wonder about Benning, he is supposed to visit in July, would they still take him then?

Tin foil hat response...it almost feels like Benning wants the staff to tell him they are full so he has an easy out to go elsewhere

Not saying this is the case, but....

Well then I like the strange recruiting. I'm a recruiting junkie from way back and I had stopped following recruiting in the final years of the Frost era because it was the same thing over and over again. The kind of kids he was after was a different kind of kid. Too many guys were brought in who had a passing interest in NU, were attracted to the message that fans treated the players like gods, and then typically drug their decisions out. Then when December rolls along some all new names start getting reported on and I realize that we've all wasted our time talking about the previous group of prospects all summer long.
