Recruiting updates 2023-24

Helping to put together the best recruiting class possible is his focus now that he is in Nebraska’s class. He was on Nebraska’s campus on Saturday morning before the camp. That's because four-star tight end target

Carter Nelson
was in town.

“Went down because my man Carter Nelson was down there," Kaelin said. "That’s the biggest reason. The staff has given me a bunch of names. I’ve been texting and FaceTiming guys both in-state and out of state. I was down there Thursday and last (offensive analyst) Coach DiMichele told me Carter would be there so I said of course I’ll come down.

“I want to make sure I get as good of a class as possible and help get the right type of guys.”
Some of the out of state players that Kaelin regularly speaks with are teammates running back Nate Frazier and offensive tackle Brandon Baker. He has agreat relationship with offensive lineman Semisi Tonga. Offensive lineman Nuku Mafi and Florida wide receiver Jacory Barney are also key targets. Kaelin loves having a key role in shaping the class.

“It’s been pretty cool. I just talked to coach McGuire a little bit ago,” Hall said. “We got to catch up on things. I haven’t talked to Matt Rhule a lot but I did talk the defensive backs coach (Evan Cooper) and we had a good conversation yesterday. Being connected with them isn’t a really a problem. I can’t wait to get down there soon.”

Hall said that Kaelin has been recruiting him to Nebraska but he’s not ready to commit just yet. He’s glad that Kaelin found the right school for him and thinks it’s a great fit for his quarterback.

McMorris
doesn’t have a set timeline but he wants to get his commitment done before his senior year. That means he wants to take all his officials before the season starts. The three-star counts his relationship with Nebraska’s Garret McGuire as one of his strongest relationships.

“My relationship with Coach McGuire is really hot. We talk almost every day. We build that communication and bond. He’s the lead recruiter in my recruitment so me and him have a great bond.”
McMorris appreciates that McGuire reaches out every day to let him know that he’s a priority for the Huskers. It makes him feel like the program really wants him to stay home. The coaches aren’t the only ones that want him to stay home.
“As soon as Danny committed, he texted me to stay home. Just him actively recruiting me has been fun because we are always together. He’s a Husker commit so I’m really going to be looking at the Huskers more because my QB is going there.”

Get some sleep HBK. But on a serious note, I feel like these local kids are a breath of fresh air that we haven’t had in awhile. People that clearly love this state and love this program and want to see it back to where it was before they were even born

I'm excited to see what the team looks like this year and especially the guys who turn themselves into foundation pieces going forward. Also hoping that we notice an immediate difference in team speed across the board. Those two things alone would leave me optimistic about the future of the program regardless of this season's record. That would show me they can identify high school talent while also addressing the area (overall team speed) I was hoping they'd improve the most. I'm still expecting it to be more noticeable by year 2 so anything that speeds up that timeline is cool by me.

Lots of young guys on D will be playing for sure.

Bair is one of the top targets on the board for Nebraska football, along with Carter Nelson, and the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder is a freak. He’s run the 100-meter dash in 10.15 this spring and is incredibly dynamic.
The Huskers cracked his top five and Bair took an unofficial visit this spring. Michigan, Oregon, Boise State, and TCU are also in the mix. Nebraska football is actually the leader according to the On3 prediction machine, based in large part on the projection of Sean Callahan of Husker Online.

4-star tackle to visit Nebraska

Marques Easley is a 2024 offensive tackle recruit that should be on the radar of Nebraska football fans as he will take an unofficial visit in early June according to Husker Online. Easley is 6-foot-7, 300 pounds out of Illinois, and is ranked 240th overall according to the On3 Industry rankings.
Recruits like him and Bair will be tough to get without seeing the product on the field first. The key will be getting these recruits to delay their decisions until the fall.

That can be a tall order but the Huskers have made up ground with Easley and it’s always good to see a blue-chip prospect come in for a visit.
