Realistically, how good is our talent level for the new coach?

Forgetting Riley, a historically mediocre coach who we wasted a hire on, I am looking ahead. We are so poorly coached and our team morale is so low that it’s difficult to get a sense of what we have. We have good receivers, I think, but that’s about it.

I want Frost to come like everyone, but it feels like our culture, brand, and roster are so beaten down that we are now a major rebuilding project.

Is the talent there for a turnaround in 1-2 years?

Let's put it this way....we have more talent than ASU, Rutgers, Northwestern, Minnesota, and NIU.

I dont see a lot of high end talent whatsoever, but the talent we do have can certainly be coached better...8 wins max, although next years schedule is a doozy. Not much talent on either line, D looks very unathletic...pretty low ceiling for these guys, need a big influx of talent for sure.

Defense is lacking a lot tbh but offense has some players. That being said a Good D coordinator can make the defense respectable.

We have enough talent to win 9 games.

Answer the question yourself, how many Nebraska players make the all Big Ten First Team, second team or even third team after the season?

Deeper on both lines than when Riley gout here.

WR playmakers but not deep.

RB trash

TE way too many for a spread offense

Punter good

Kicker starting over

LB average

Safety young but promising

CB trash

Sounds strange to say, but we need some player attrition and hit the JUCOs hard this offseason...especially on D.

Their productivity is at least partly a product of their coaching. We've got some guys that look the part and they're not being put in a position to be successful especially on D. Good heavens we have more talent than Minnesota and look at what they did to us. Diaco shouldn't be allowed back on the team plane tonight.

The main problem is this pussified culture that has overtaken the program. We have pretty good talent that doesn't understand what it takes to win. Our OL is a prime example of not being deducted to strength and conditioning. It all starts with the head football coach and trickles down from there. We need a change asap! Mr Rodgers does not fit in here at Nebraska.

TEs...they all look the same, slow and weak
LBs ... average is being sooo kind...beyond sucks is what I was thinking
RBs ... see TEs
CBs ... cringe
QB ... amazing he has made it though the season thus far behind this OL
OL and DL ... titanic disappointments, more worried about face paint than blocking and tackling

Sad state of affairs.

That is a good point. It is so hard to tell what type of talent we have with this team because the coach and morale is so poor. It is hard to say. Next year is going to be tough since our schedule is so brutal. I would think If we can get a good coach in here and utilize the talent we have we can go 6 or 7 wins year 1.

Can't call the RB trash because our O line is so bad that they can't do much.

Very apparent we have the least talent in the entire Big 10. This is a total rebuild for any coach. Thanks Bo.

Been saying it for years. You are 100% correct. We are weak. Not just physically weak, but emotionally also.

When I played at just a high school level, hell even in Jr. High the mentality was KILL KILL KILL!!!

In 9th Grade (Jr High Varsity) our position coach was working on blocking us and slammed his bare head into the D-Lineman. He started bleeding and players alerted him and he just screamed, "I LOVE BLOOD!!!" and kept on coaching. We weren't soft little flowers. We won the championship because that mentality boiled over to us.

I see NONE of that in our program here.

Nebraska high school football has to have changed for the worse in the past twenty years. Metro alone used to be packed with talent and physical teams. Shit, the freshman and sophomore teams were physical when I played. I heard they don't even have a JV team at high schools in Nebraska anymore. It's no wonder the talent took a nosedive.

I said it in another thread. Our team is mentally fragile and physically soft. Mike Riley is the head man and ultimately the one responsible! Makes me sick to see this here at Nebraska of all places!

I see very few players who can be major contributors to a BIG championship caliber type team. Not sure I see any on defense but the effort is so poor it's hard to know for sure.

Not good. We have glaring talent issues across the board. I’m not sure how anyone can see it any other ther way. It’s been brutally obvious from day 1.

I think we are 3 or 4 years away from being a year away

This!! How can you not be a .500 club in the West. There is not enough talent to win the west so 4 to 5 years best case scenario.
With out typical cream puff schedule .500 should be easily attainable. I’d say we’re a top 45 school as far as talent which just so Happens to match our recruiting.

Our problem is that most of that talent is less than 225 pounds. Not going to get it done in the Big Ten that way.

we are very unathletic on defense - stiff, lack agility, physically weak. it's a big part of why we cant tackle at all, rugby or no rugby.

we should be much bettet on the OL than we are, i assume cav just really blows and that someone decent could get our talent to play at an above avg level.

i think we're ok at qb. #10 is a great start at WR and Lindsey will be a good player. stan and mcquitty, seems solid, need more depth. i think we're ok at TE. Tre is a good RB if he can get healthy. our other guys are soso, but serviceable as backups. maybe Bradley can get to another level.

And many many people thought Diaco was he good D person who was going to turn things around. Open the checkbook was the battle cry and they did. Where did that get us?

Better than 54-21.
