I was so tired of the trash talk on this coach over the past two years. He may not have improved the OL fast enough for some, but showed development every step of the way. Dumbshits such as Kong claimed its all about his QB nephew. This now looks to be the guy to finally be rebuilding a long missed O pipeline. I hope the naysayers can start giving credit for something we've sorely needed for 10-15 years.

We will see how it plays out. 22 was not a good indicator. Frost and Whipple fought for control of the direction of the offense.hard for a line coach to do much in that situation Enough improvement seen this year and OL recruiting is on an upward tick.

2nd best OL recruiting class at NU in the internet era. I’d say it’s more than just an upward tick.

It’s a nice class, but we shall see. The guys we have on the line now weren’t a bunch of 2 stars. I wish I could see what he would do with a different OC.
Nice class though, I’ll take it
They weren't, but they were under performing at best. He's slowly, foundationally, started turning it around.

Both can be true. Doing a good job coaching and recruiting well, but still highly likely only kept on staff for a better shot at Dylan.

I’m not sold on him with this offense. We don’t have an identity. They still can’t pass block the edges. If it were an actual power run scheme he’d be ok but he’s part of one of the shittiest offenses ever and as has been mentioned, these are almost all very experienced 4 star players across the line already. It really should’ve looked better. I don’t see it working out.

Donny has been doing a pretty damn good job. His unit faced loaded boxes all year long because there was no passing threat, yet still managed to lead the big 10 in rushing. He has also put together a nice class of Olinemen.

Agreed. The players he inherited reportedly love him too, and I'm okay w the pace of progression so far. I happened to be on the opinion we landed a great coach at the right time vs all the complaining + claims of retention only for his nephew.

People should go back and listen to Rhule speak about retaining Raiola. One of things that stood out to me was he said that Donny kept showing up and working when the rest of the old staff had stopped. Sounded like that impressed Rhule.

chickens and eggs-
Order of operations always seems to be in question.
Either way, we need sone cocks to fertilize these eggs and let them grow into the next generation….
….except we want monster beast, rabid dinosaur maulers to hatch and not little chickens.

Wait...What? We led the big 10 in rushing?

Rest of the staff was gone IIRC. Donny was in limbo.

When you watched some of our guys move it was obvious they lacked the needed agility to play where they were playing. That was an evaluation problem regardless of where Rivals had them ranked.

The OL was vastly improved and even played relatively well when several starters went down. For once I saw guys get better as individual players. Under Frost it seemed like (other than Cam Jurgens) player development was non-existent.

As I posted we will see. Best indication is when the players who were recruited by Donnie and coached by him from day one are on the field.
That’s fair. It would be nice to be able to recruit to a team that hasn’t had a string of losing seasons though. That makes it damned tough.

Rhule said specifically that Raiola was in his office working that entire time. The other guys stopped and collected their paychecks.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure most of the Rhule guys like Barthel and Cooper were already in place from the time Rhule got here. There would have been no reason for Applewhite or Fisher to be working for NU. Their replacements were in place before Rhule took the job, at least the way Cooper told it.

As I recall it, all of those guys were still under contract and being paid when Rhule was hired. I also recall him interviewing most if not all of them. Raiola and Mickey were supposedly the only guys staying in touch with recruits. The rest of the guys bailed out.

I read this and thought "no way". Went back and looked at the last 15 plus recruiting classes and you could actually make that argument. And this class even has a major reach and an athletic project in it.

The state 5A championship game in Colorado is this weekend, both teams (Cherry Creek and Columbine) have some good O-Lines. Colorado hasn't one commitment from any on those teams, might be time for Raiola to make a visit on Saturday. Both 5A and 4A title games are at CSU's stadium, be worth the trip I'd say.
I’m sure they’re aware. With the Iowa loss and rumors about Tony White, I’m sure they’re busy trying to hold their class together. I wonder if the White rumors had anything to do with Jones decommitting.

Who is the major reach?
