He has to keep putting it on video. I have no idea what he would put up in the 40 or agility drills when the time comes. Put cover and run support on video then show them the necessary athleticism and see what happens. He looked legit last fall. He’ll interview well.Everything about our football program is a reason to doubt positive outcomes
Whenever people think a guy is a sure thing, he’s anything but
Add to that most people here wouldn’t know an NFL player if they kicked them in the shorts and I think we have proper expectations that he’s at best a 3rd team all-conference player and not some future first rounder
Hey, maybe I’m wrong and he becomes the lockdown guy we desperately need
It’s really not. I’m as excited as anyone for the season.Kongs sole purpose on this board is to squash any optimism lol
Wow. Some ground breaking stuff sheesh man keep up the obvious. It’s really not. I’m as excited as anyone for the season.
I’m just objective, and there’s a ton to worry about/unproven/we need to break our way.
Last year we had people here saying 5+ guys would get drafted. It’s ridiculous how little reality is touched upon on this site.
Butler a better DC than white? He’ll have to prove it. OL improved? Prove it. EJ stay healthy and carry a starters workload? Prove it. DR blossoms and leads us to victories when we’re outmanned? Prove it. Dana sticks around more than 2 years? Prove it.
So many folks just act like all this stuff is assumed when it’s anything but.
Had they cleaned up the poor tackling vs BC, I'd say Butler would have graded an A for the bowl game. The dude has a lot of coaching experience and has a lot of incentive to have a successful rookie outing as DC. He has Phil Snow as an advisor and coach of the younger DBs, and the DB coach who came from UCF has coordinator experience. Watson-Trent and McCullough have been productive defenders elsewhere. It should be more difficult to throw on the current DB lineup and that should help the pass rush.
On the passing D, I don’t think the coaching is in any way under powered and they are committed to finding ways to bring pressure. If they can be better in coverage scheme, it should make the delayed blitz that Shavers and McCullogh can bring effective. They may still be under powered a bit the quality of their vets, but otoh, Buford, Singleton, C Wright and Hartzog have logged a lot of snaps. Guys like Davis, Nwaneri and RVP are young, but have enough talent to be playing in the top third at their positions in the league. Trent and Buddha Wright are both nose for the football kind of players, and McCullough oozes athleticism. Tony accomplished the job of getting the defense to play sound, fundamental football and got top 20 defenses for his effort. Now other coaches can build more sophisticated play on that foundation. I don’t see that as part of White’s wheelhouse.I'll admit I was on record as NOT liking the Butler hire to begin with. I thought it was a huge risk to bet your future (HCMR) on a guy with so little experience. THEN after hearing the Phil Snow was being brought in it eased my pain a lot. He's highly respected as a defensive mind and imo will be a huge asset to Butler. Also like the UCF guy as well. Plenty of knowledge on that side of the ball. Hopefully it works out for the best. If it does I thinknwe will be a better team than last year because I expect offens and special teams to be better.
