Preacher Rhule is a Coward

By what standard is this roster that good? Transfer QB, walk on receivers, walk on o-lineman, young TE coming off two knee injuries, no proven RB besides Grant who can't hold onto the ball. The o-line has unfortunately not improved to date so tell me where the strength in this O lies?
Let's start with Grant. 2 fumbles, 1 lost in 241 rushes at JUCO. 3 fumbles, 1 lost last year in 218 attempts. I don't see how he's held to such a high standard when Sims isn't.

The offensive line has 118+ combined starts. Sims has started 26 games over 4 years. Kemp has 192 career catches. Washington looked good not great last year. Ervin is a former starter. Johnson has been around for what seems forever.

Do I expect us to win the Big 10? No. Do I expect the offense to look organized and disciplined? Yes.

I'm sick of excuses. Our offense is a straight up shit show. And did we see any improvement from game 1 to game 2? I'm sick of watching bad football.

I'll ask again. What is the downside to playing or starting HH and seeing what he can do?

The downside would be that you are playing a first-year starter, so you would have to tolerate a lot of mistakes on his part, interceptions, poor hand-offs, fumbles, mental mistakes etc.
In other words, you will have the same problems as you do with Sims in a less talented player.
Will we have the same problems? How would we know because Rhule won't let us see. The main difference is we we would have an inexperienced qb gaining experience rather than a veteran screwing our season. Maybe Sims just needs a 5th season to learn to catch a snap or read a defense?

Looking like we hired another pay check chasing bozo
I really hope this isn’t the case. I talked with a high school assistant coach in Omaha and he had nothing but good things to say when he met Rhule at a coaches event. From the outside looking in, Rhule made a lot of good moves in the offseason with in-state relationships (still waiting on that Anthony Rezac offer though).

I’ll give Rhule time this year, especially since he started his tenure with 2 road games. If I’m seeing no improvement in Sims or one of the backup QBs by November, my hunch is Satt won’t be on staff next January.

You could also make the claim that only a coward would make decisions based on complaints of fans or message board posters.

Our opponents would like nothing more than to see Rhule replace Jeff Sims with HH, a QB whose completed two passes in his career.

yeah, I’m all behind him as well. I hope he finds his groove. Just after watching these first two games I’m seeing the exact same shit I’ve seen for 8 years. Shame on me for hoping for a different look

I've not been a huge fan of Carriker's weekly videos, his delivery just isn't my thing. But, his video title roped me in this week, something along the lines of "something has to change." I'm glad I watched this week for one thing he said.

Paraphrasing, it was, "No disrespect to Coach Rhule, I don't care about anything he says this week. I only care about what I see next Saturday. Something needs to change at the QB position." Amen.

It's unbelievable to me that people CONTINUE to support coach after coach at this program that run out fatally flawed QB's that sabotage the other guys that are putting in the work. It's a joke and I'm sick of it.
I agree. Carriker is awful. Delivery is terrible and just bad overall.

And he had a Charlie Brewer on his roster. I’ve seen nothing from our backups that make me think they’re as talented as Charlie Brewer. Apparently Sims gets another chance in a friendly environment BUT if it were me the leash would be very short. ONE screw up and you’re on the sideline.

If he’s even healthy enough to play. He didn’t practice.

Legitimately, it could be another option. It could be that people are tired of the incessant banging on the head coach from you.

You start thread after thread about the coach and maybe, just maybe, people got it. Another thread isn’t going change how posters on this board view you.

I mean, we are worried about this QB sitch but the WRs and TEs look like they’re playing in high heels

Born and raised Husker, alum of UNL. I didn’t choose this, it chose me.

I care. A lot.

And I’m sick of this bullshit.

Rhule looks way, way out of his element. Haarberg is his and our only hope.

Bill Callahan was right about one thing. Some of us need to get a life. Fanatic isn’t a strong enough word.

The retention of the OL coach was a red flag.

The evaluation and recruitment of Sims is also a red flag.

Not preparing for the crowd noise, another red flag.

It just seems that a proven head coach shouldn't be making this many mistakes. He doesn't have to be perfect, but it just seems like we are paying a lot of money for a guy that is probably no better than a high school coach.

There are some high school coaches on this board.. Do any of you feel like Rhule has some sort of leg up on you in the coaching department? Are his organizational skill better? I'm really curious.

College coaching seems like a scam and easy way to earn millions if you can get the gig.

I think that Rhule is using the injury(?) "he's our starter when healthy" to conveniently set up the opportunity for HH to start Saturday. Sims can't get his feelings hurt because he's injured. If HH sucks its easy enough to go back to a healthy Sims next week (or beyond) without looking like you're not standing by the guy you brought in to start. Hopefully HH takes it and runs. I didn't watch the 2nd half Saturday but went back to watch HH and thought he looked clearly better than Sims in his limited snaps.

Personally, I just don't give a crap anymore as far as really being invested in what happens this season. Call me whatever you want, I will be there for Nebraska football if the day ever arrives that they are there for me. AKA win some mf'ing games and then I'll decide to dedicate entire Saturdays to it. Meanwhile, I'm going to use my time for more enjoyable activities on fall Saturdays.
Perhaps. But what if it's Sims using the "alledged" injury to remove himself from starting lineup?

Knowing your the one responsible for your teams losses can't be fun or good for ones confidence. And for his sake, I hope he's not on social media.

You're damn right. My family had our season tickets 40 years before I was born. Like kong said, I didn't choose to be a fan. I was born into it. And I won't sit back for the 3rd time in a row and watch a bunch of nonsense while being told to be patient. I unfortunately know shitty football and I know shitty qb play. Can't have a turnover machine AND not score. That is how you lose every single game.

Fix it or make changes. And Rhule and Satterfield haven't fixed it.

The false starts bull $&it needs to stop..We’re on our 3rd coaching regime and this crap been going on way too long…

Fact is we don’t have any QB‘s we can win with consistently..

Kong until HH proves himself in game not already decided you can’t say other wise..

Crowd noise has been a big factor in false starts other than Washington’s. It’s unfortunate that we started the season on the road against competitive teams. NFL teams false start in hostile environments

Boy, that’s good to know! Hard to tell nowadays if someone is a neurotic fan worrying about a competent coach who doesn’t win enough to improve your self esteem, or a troll. Thanks for clearing that up!

You think watching Nebraska suck on the field while the guy in charge spews worthless platitudes off it makes me feel better?

Win. Now. Half or more of this board will be worm food by the time we’re good again at this rate.

I want to disagree with something in this post...but failed to find a single point I didn't agree with (now). I would not have said that 2 weeks ago of course...but here we are.

coaches speak worthless platitudes after losses? Wonder if wonders, this is amazing! What would we do on this board without you pointing this out?

I’m aware of that and I was in Boulder it was awfully loud, but you can’t tell they don’t have blurring speakers practicing during the week..

Plenty of college team play in hostile environments also that don’t have as many false starts we have had for too long.

Tim, your newfound obsession with me is unbecoming.

You’re a grown man. Stop acting like @BleedRed78 and get over it.

If Rhule ever shows he can coach, I’ll stop calling him Preacher. Until then, he’ll have earned the moniker. It didn’t come from nowhere.

The fact it irks you as much as it does says a hell of a lot more about you than it does about me. You’re trolling me because you think I troll this board. How ironic.

Not really. I’m not the one on this board starting dozens of threads shredding the coach.

I’m not defending the coach. I’m just pointing out how unbecoming it is to spend countless hours scouring X looking for yet another negative thread to start about the coach.

Go ahead and try to paint me as the troll. Most on this board know the truth.

no, you're spending however much time scouring this board looking for each and every post I make so you can respond to it.

what an existence.

I'll ask the Preacher to include your plight in the next round of nonsecular team prayers.

Not really that hard. I just hit refresh and here you are. Everywhere. Complaining.

I wouldn’t call that scouring. I find it funny. Sad, but funny.

Nobody has to look very hard to find you complaining about something. Just open up any random thread on page one and there you'll be.

I also wonder why Rhule picked Satt over Glen Thomas for OC, when he chose Thomas over Satt at Baylor and had so much success.

Do you know for sure he didn't reach out to Thomas? I haven't heard but maybe he contacted Thomas & he had an offer to go to the Steelers and wanted to give the NFL a try instead of Nebraska?

Also, I believe Thomas was Rhule's choice at Baylor prior to Satt getting hired there. Satt was the HC at Tennessee Tech when Rhule was hired at Baylor and was building his staff. Maybe he asked Satt then and Satt wanted to stay a HC. IMO, it really does no good to question and speculate because we won't know all of the facts and circumstances and we'll draw ignorant and incorrect conclusions.

Well you can’t fix stupid. No shit we can’t keep turning the ball over genius. We have four turnovers against Northern Illinois, it will be another loss.
Or Sims plays well against Northern Illinois and La Tech thus masking his inability to play well against better teams. I think the problem is there is no good option. I have no problem with Rhule bringing Sims in, but I think he should have brought in another quarterback as well. Especially after Casey left. Purdy is another turnover machine with a confidence problem. Haarberg must not practice well. No coach has seemed to want to give him a chance. I think these are Rhule's only choices, play Sims and live with the turnovers or play Haarberg, who may not be as talented but hopefully does not turnover the ball. I don't think Sims turning the ball over is going to change. That is just how he plays. The coaches could help Haarberg out a lot with play calling that fits his playing style.

Does anyone know anything about the two other quarterbacks on the roster? Jack Woche and Luke Longval?

I have read on this forum that Chubba Purdy sucks and has a noodle arm. Yet through 10 months of practice, he and Haarberg were basically even.

Perhaps Sims is just the best QB Nebraska has.

Purdy
54-107 464 yards 4 TD 4 INT

Haarberg
2-6 13 yards 1 TD 0 INT

they're not even. that's rhule preaching.

all 4 of purdy's TDs came 2+ years ago at FSU. he's 0 TD/3 INT at NU.
