What criteria are we using for deciding best conference for this year? Just want to get it down so we don't have people moving the goal posts.
This bracket shows the actual media bias favors the B1G over the SEC.
There is no cohesive argument otherwise. Just feelings.
I don't see that after the tenacity they showed last night. I'm not a PSU fan but I was impressed that they didn't allow the Ducks to run away with that game. PSU is better than I wanted to believe.Pennst will choke
Would rather have Arizona St the 3rd seed and have SMU/Penn St winner play the Sun Devils..Rece Davis finally got around to making the point about Penn State getting gifted an express lane to the Final Four, despite having no signature wins.
Also part of it is skepticism on my part of Saban. Let’s say the roles were reversed between Bama and SMU. Do you sincerely think Saban says a word about SOS then? As he explained himself a little more he says SMU shouldn’t have been ranked as high as they were before conference champ game. I can’t disagree with that.I don't understand your point. His point is the SEC already has a good SOS, but SMU and Clemson don't. How would playing more SEC games help that?
Why wasn’t So Carolina rated ahead of both SMU and Bama? Also part of it is skepticism on my part of Saban. Let’s say the roles were reversed between Bama and SMU. I think you are over-glorifying the status of what it takes to be in the playoffs. With 12 teams, there will be a lot of "meh" teams that get in. Is there an argument that more SEC teams belong in the playoff if we are just to evaluate on who is better than who, sure. But if that was how teams were to get into the playoff then you can't allow automatic qualifiers to make the playoff, Despite being the worst B1G team in the playoffs, Indiana is better than Boise State, Arizona State, SMU and Clemson. If 3 loss Ole Miss, Alabama, and South Carolina were to make it in it would be at the expense of 3 of those 4 teams. Not a 1 loss Indiana team that smashed every team except for Ohio State and Michigan (who was near their best all season at time of play). He is triggered, despite the committee putting in B1G’s Indiana (don’t belong) and leaving out the #4 FPI team in the country from the SEC.
So Alabama can go from 9th to 6th when SMU is sitting at 75?They can increase it even more and have a better argument.
He hates Indiana because they transferred his money to my account over and over this season. Tough to watch but it’s a dog eat dog world out there.Like the fun match up it’s perfect, ya don’t have to $&it on the game because you hate B1G teams..
The auto BYEs for Conference Champs has to change.
The SMU, Penn State, and Boise State bracket is an absolute joke.
Texas essentially gets a BYE to the Semis with games against Clemson and Arizona State who are the 2 lowest ranked teams in the playoff.
I agree. Because a 50 something yard FG was made by another team, Arizona state moves from a 12 seed to 4! It’s what it is this year but that shows the ridiculousness of the set up.The seeding is so stupid. The conference champions should get in, but that does NOT mean they should be the top seeds automatically. I knew there would be a way for the NCAA to screw this up. Seedings should be based on rankings so that the regular season actually means something.
I expect it will change. This format was decided upon before the last realignment, when the PAC 12 imploded and Big 12 was severely weakened. ACC was barely a power conference to begin with. So instead of 5 power conference, we now have 2. Or 1 in some minds. The auto BYEs for Conference Champs has to change.

From a football perspective, it’s very stupid. From a tv/viewership stand point it’s not as bad as it seems. If it’s only the big ten and sec after the first round every year, it’ll get stale. Might end up that way and get stale any ways but it’s an attemptI agree. Because a 50 something yard FG was made by another team, Arizona state moves from a 12 seed to 4! Because they can say all the words they want to but ultimately it appears they do not apply their parameters consistently. Why wasn’t So Carolina rated ahead of both SMU and Bama?
Rules were 4 highest ranked conference champions.I agree. Because a 50 something yard FG was made by another team, Arizona state moves from a 12 seed to 4! It’s what it is this year but that shows the ridiculousness of the set up.
There it is. That explains a lot. It’s not about seeding them in the most deserving way rather it’s about the entertainment value. From a football perspective, it’s very stupid. I’m not crying about the results. I personally have no care about it. I even stated it is what it is this year.Rules were 4 highest ranked conference champions.
Cry about the results all you want, but the start of the season know one was complaining and everyone were just glad we had a 12 team playoff..
If it means Bama has another high quality win then it will matter. So Alabama can go from 9th to 6th when SMU is sitting at 75?
Of course it is. Collin cowherd even came out and said he thinks the tv networks should get a vote in situations such as bama vs Smu being in. They pay the bills and bring the money that all the schools and players want, they should have a say. I don’t agree with that but unfortunately when the system is built on money, the entertainment value matters. There it is. That explains a lot. It’s not about seeding them in the most deserving way rather it’s about the entertainment value.
College football was a lot more exciting when 2 polls voted for a champion. And there were standards. Most of these teams don't deserve a shot at a national title. If you want a 2 or 3 loss champion, they need to all play 10 conference games and 3 non con before ccgs. This stinks.Yeah, this is awesome. I’m hoping we get a college football feel good with SMU and Indiana in. Bama out.
Boise St is a 3 seed, not a 9 seed. They deserved that seed. It isn't an auto win for anyone.Penn State, whose biggest attributes are two close losses, just has to beat the #11 and #9 seeds to get to the Final Four. Good Lord, what a gift.
They should wait until the results of the first round to see who the #1 seed plays. If clemson beats Texas, Oregon shouldn't have to play winner of Tenn/OSU in that scenario. The seeding is so stupid. The conference champions should get in, but that does NOT mean they should be the top seeds automatically. I knew there would be a way for the NCAA to screw this up. Seedings should be based on rankings so that the regular season actually means something.
Getting into the playoff as a team from the big ten realistically means being a top 10 team. So I’m going to go ahead and say we are a long, long way from thatEasier said than done, but can we get our shit together for next season and scrap and claw our way into the playoff? Is it possible if we decide to stop beating ourselves?
Not really, the Illinois, UCLA, USC, Iowa games could have easily been wins and would have probably put us into the playoff this year. Beating tOSU as well, would have definitely put us in, which also wasn't far off from being a W.Getting into the playoff as a team from the big ten realistically means being a top 10 team. So I’m going to go ahead and say we are a long, long way from that
Because they weren't ranked to start the season. Why wasn’t So Carolina rated ahead of both SMU and Bama?
Neither was SMU.Because they weren't ranked to start the season.
Or you could judge SMU fairly by their quality wins. Oh yeah, they don't have any.If it means Bama has another high quality win then it will matter.
Fair point. IMO SMU is an overreaction to a feel good story, and South Carolina came on very strong late.Neither was SMU.
Bama killed their win equity by losing 3 games, 2 of them to 6-6 teams. They were 21 point favorites against OU and scored 3 points while getting their asses absolutely kickedOr you could judge SMU fairly by their quality wins. Oh yeah, they don't have any.
