This team is mentally beat up and weak because of the previous coaches. The new staff has to install completely new offense and defense, the schedule is tough, no QB, the talent level, although similar to the last 11 years is now below average. No way we can expect frost to work miracles.
We will be lucky to win 4 or 5 games.
Did I hit all the hot buttons???
Sarcasm
I agree with Kaz anything less than 8 will be a disappointment.
Yes. There are 8 winnable games on our schedule next year. Pelini had 9 win talent on the team and Riley recruited similar to Pelini and the staff was able to fill some holes with their transition class. Couple that with the fact that this staff can coach circles around the prior staffs and anything less than 9 wins would be a disappointment.
Yup!Disagree about talent level and recruiting. You can research and see how many recruits Riley inherited from Pelini that were drafted and it's downright sad. I'll go on record and say Frost will inherit double the amount of guys from Riley that will be drafted.
Riley rot, No toxicityIf there was Riley rot last year, was there also Bo toxicity in 2015? ;-)
While this is somewhat tongue in cheek, this is probably why there are some still having a hard time complimenting Frost for what will hopefully be a great career here. When posters posted about Bo’s toxic wasteland, others said it was normal.
Can’t have it both ways.
Sorry, bshirt, not calling you out directly... and I’m not saying Frost and company don’t have any work to do either... I just find it interesting is all.
Edit: I shouldn’t say, can’t have it both ways. What I should have said is what is different between the way Pelini left the huskers and the way Riley left the huskers?
Riley rot, Bo toxicity? Sounds like a bunch of B'S to me. Look, if you have a coach who's a winner, who demands respect, commands excellence, kids are going to see that and buy into it and adopt that same attitude. Maybe the attitude on the team is shit right now, but I expect that to do a 180 by the time the season starts. It shouldn't take multiple years before we start seeing the player's adopt a winning mentality. Wouldn't be surprised if an attitude adjustment is already starting to take effect. If there was Riley rot last year, was there also Bo toxicity in 2015? ;-)

Maybe that had something to do with the coaching they had while they were here..Disagree about talent level and recruiting. 12-0 is possible also, but not probable10-2
Here’s my, admittedly way too early, prediction:
Akron — W — easy one
Colorado — W — close, but new Husker scheme and attitude reveal themselves
Troy — W
Michigan — L — but we give them a game
Purdue — W — a surprisingly easy one
Wisconsin — W — first big upset of the Frost era
Northwestern — W — new scheme meshes
Minnesota — W — and we thrash them and their goofy coach
OSU — L — a close one, with Urban whinning that we were hitting too hard
Illinois — W — another welcome thrashing
MSU — W — we pull off a close one
Iowa — W — a butt kicking that they and their stupid fans richly deserve
Now before everyone jumps on about premature and unjustified optimism, my main point is to point that this record IS possible.
Fortunately they'll all survive. How about we find out how many players survive winter conditioning and spring ball first.
Now you know some Iowa fan is going to think you're dead serious..
believe
1. We will win the BIG West.
2. We will win the BIG Championship.
3. We will win the first game of the playoff.
4. We will win our 6th National Championship.
Now you know some Iowa fan is going to think you're dead serious..
LOLI am and its about time some of our Husker "fans" get serious too.
Wasn't an excuse. I don't really care how many guys get drafted. I care about winning football games. Most of the players the last few years have been coached nowhere near to their potential. If you take a guy with the same level of talent and he had 4 years of good coaching at one school and would have had 4 years of bad coaching at another school, the guy with 4 years of solid coaching is going to play at a higher level and be drafted and the other guy won't get drafted even though they started out the same.Waiting for that excuse. So I'll play the game. Look at the guys that Pelini left that got drafted and draw your own conclusion.
The last laugh is going to be on you dude...
I love the optimism, but there's a slim chance 2018 could start off just as badly as 2017. Don't sleep on Troy, the Sun Belt's best team which beat LSU and gave Boise State a game last year. With an inexperienced QB and a team still trying to learn the SF way, the Huskers could be 1-3 heading into Purdue week just as easily as 4-0.
I usually would hold off on any speculating until August, but these are exciting times. As it stands today, I think 7 wins would be satisfactory. 9 wins would be great. Double-digits in Year 1? Now that would be epic.
I'm a believer that NU should be competing for conference and natty titles every year, but, you know, Rome wasn't built in a day.
1. We will win the BIG West.
2. We will win the BIG Championship.
3. We will win the first game of the playoff.
4. We will win our 6th National Championship.
10-2 last year with Gomer Pyle running the show? LMAO!!!!!!!!Well I like your optimism. I thought that would be our record last year. I think 10-2 would be closer to reality in 2018 than 2017 considering where we ended
Not even sure why I’m posting, as I’m exposing myself, but here goes...10-2 last year with Gomer Pyle running the show? LMAO!!!!!!!!
You REALLY don’t see the difference? What I should have said is what is different between the way Pelini left the huskers and the way Riley left the huskers?
You have no idea how excited I am that you joined this board on Monday... I can’t wait for all of your amazing posts! You REALLY don’t see the difference?

For you, I will revert back to initial post. If you say there is Riley rot, then there was also Bo toxicity in 2015.
You good with that?
You are on fire... and not as funny as you think you are.No
Don’t waste your valuable time reading my posts then. They will clearly be above anything your brain can handle!
1. We will win the BIG West.
2. We will win the BIG Championship.
3. We will win the first game of the playoff.
4. We will win our 6th National Championship.
Did you take a road trip to/through Colorado recently? The BigRedBeliever is the BigRedReceiver of purchased goods from Colorado.
I don’t think I’m funny and I’m not trying to be either. You’re embarrassing yourself and I guarantee most here are laughing at you! I would venture to guess in your 10 years of posting, you have provided a great many laughs. You are on fire... and not as funny as you think you are.

Hind sight is easy. Last year should have been an improvement10-2 last year with Gomer Pyle running the show? LMAO!!!!!!!!
Shouldn’t have responded to him... I made that mistake already. He’s like a leech. Good luck shaking him.Hind sight is easy. Last year should have been an improvement

No, it's actually the Red Kool-Aid thread .10-2? Is this the pixie dust thread?
OK, I started this thread, but it was never my intention that posters would attack each other because they have different opinions. I thought it would be fun to think about this year’s schedule in light of some very positive early moves. That’s it. So let’s just stop the cheap shots and respect each other’s opinions. No, it's actually the Red Kool-Aid thread .
I have to disagree with the notion there is a "Riley rot." I believe most of these players have been starving for the kind of leadership, commitment, and passion that Frost & Co. bring. Most of the players will eat it up. They want to win. They want to excel. There will be no hangover because at 4-8 with multiple blowout losses, they know change was needed. Plus, Riley did not poison the well on the way out. He left like an adult, unlike Pelini.1. We have very little depth at certain key positions. Therefore, injuries at those positions would throw off any optimistic prediction
2. No way to know just how deep the Riley rot went and therefore how the returning players will react to the new Frost regimen. Davison's comments make me think the Riley rot is deep.
3. No way to know yet how good certain teams will be next year. We know OSU will be top shelf. But just how good will the following teams be: Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Colorado? We could win all those games. We could also lose all those games.
4. No way to know how quickly the players will adapt to new systems on both sides of the ball.
5. No way to know if any of the new Juco players will gel this year.
Hell, we could go 11-1. We could also go 5-7
