OT: The PGA Tour, LIV Golf and the NCAA

Playing out exactly as predicted in this thread.

Unification is coming. Golf will never have been better.

Could be that LIV takes a step backward, which would delight some on this board. Saw an article that the woke marketing executive that nearly destroyed the Bud Light brand has been hired by LIV. Not sure in what capacity, but if it is in anything other than as a flunky, perhaps LIV implodes???

Looking at the odds to win the Masters prior this week it’s pretty clear LIV has accumulated the assets necessary to negotiate at full freight

Yep, losing billions, no TV ratings, and beyond Dechambeau, Rahm, and Koepka, there isn't anyone the PGA really wants. Full freight, yep.

yea, I'm sure the PGA Tour would absolutely hate having the best players in the world playing in its events every week

I can see Reed and even Koepka, I thought Bryson came out recently and said no? Either way I could see it interesting him, why wouldn't it?

The PGA tour is far from done, but in the end maybe some will praise these guys for forcing the tour to make changes?

The PGA would like Dechambeau, Rahm, and Koepka. They don't care about the rest. Combined with their unsustainable business model, playing on predominately easy, weak ass courses, and no TV viewership, your claim regarding LIV being able to negotiate at "full freight"......um, no. Frankly, your statement is plain stupid.

a few observations:

1. golf needed that, rory's victory, a positive in what has been a tumultuous sport of late;
2. rory took us from exhilaration to exasperation to a grand slam - wonderful drama/ugly golf;
3. the great golfers who chased saudi liv money are seemingly losing form from dechambeau to rahm;
4. cbs coverage - bad camera work and torturously negative trevor "simpleton" - miss sir nick;
5. the masters is so refreshingly proper without drunks screaming, cellphones flashing, and 4000 commercials.

1. "Golf" didn't need that win by Rory. Rory needed that win for Rory. But agree, it has been unnecessarily tumultuous the past several years.
2. Agree. What huge swings in the leaderboard and could have been even more swings if a few players didn't mess up so much on the back 9. But, that is the Masters.
3. In looking at the leaderboard. there were quite a few LIV guys that made top 20. DeChambeau played poorly yesterday but there were several that played well. Had PReed not 3-putted from 5 feet he would have been in the playoff.
4. Faldo blows. In fact, other than Nantz doing PBP all the color guys and analysts are pretty bad.
5. Wholeheartedly agree!!!

Reed also holed out from the fairway on 17 . He played well but didn’t deserve to in the playoff and he wasn’t.

liv guys are fading quickly because they are not under competitive fire week-after-week. guys like cam smith are approaching obscurity, reed no less. as for rory, we can hardly say that golf needed it more than rory, but pga fans like me thoroughly enjoyed his winning, something positive for once.

And if McIlroy didn't have four double bogeys, he would have won by eight. Reed was never in the hunt to win.

The first comment is not entirely true, although some aspects might have some merit. The top players on the PGA tour only play about 20 tournaments per year, which is not much different than the LIV tour. The PGA events have better depth because of the larger size of the field compared to LIV events. But the number of "top" players in both PGA and LIV events are probably pretty close to the same, although PGA would have the edge because of sheer numbers.

Rory winning the career grand slam is a great story for golf, no doubt. The Masters looked like it was going to be a boring finish when Rory got hot and Bryson could no longer hit a decent iron shot. Man, what a turn of events on almost every hole on the back 9. Some really sh*tty shots to tremendous shots.

The comment he made about Cam smith is dead on. . He was the pga player of the year in 22 . He joined Liv in August of 22 and basically has never been heard of again in the “ PGA” events he has played in .

i do not agree that the number of top players are pretty much the same between tours. clearly bryson is top tier. but it ends with him now as the others have faded due to a lack of competition, in my view, or simply their age, like phil. eight of the top ten masters were pga tour players.
