OT: The PGA Tour, LIV Golf and the NCAA

89,000 viewers. Hah, that shit is funny. Nobody watches, nobody cares about LIV. Rahm, Koepka, DeChambeau, and Smith are all regretting their decisions. They are complete after-thoughts in the world of golf except at the majors and then most of them aren't prepared because they play on resort courses with limited fields at no cut events with only three rounds. Why would the PGA cave at all to a totally subsidized rec league that nobody cares about? PGA is in the driver's seat in these negotiations.
could not have put it better. the pga should just ignore liv and let it die on it's own merit.

According to Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal, the Procore Championship saw a huge dip in viewership compared to last year. Only 69,000 viewers tuned in for the Sunday finale, compared to last year's edition, which garnered 298,000 viewers.

Rahm, Koepka and Bryson have won 3 of the last 8 majors

very funny post, as always, Lou

could they have done that and not jumped the shark though?? I don't follow golf but it looks like (money not withstanding) the LIV has been a disaster. Hope everyone who grabbed the bag is happy. most of those guys already had generational wealth and tried to get happier than happy.

what Lou and the kst fan fail to grasp is viewership/popularity/turning a profit was never the goal of LIV. the PIF stated this at the outset and it's been posted in this thread years ago.

the goal was to have a seat at the table, which has been accomplished.

these people are crying over spilled milk. it's already over. the PGA lost and has now changed its entire schedule and bonus structure to become more like LIV and benefit the players infinitely more than it ever had.

LIV was a forcing function for change. it worked bigly.

i wonder why the saudi's would give a shit about the pga and how they treat their golfers?

i do like that a lot of things changed, accommodations for the caddies for one, i read they sometimes doubled up at the Motel 6 on tour, which begs the question why the multi millionaire golfers they caddied for pony up for them? maybe some did, but most didn't, and then they still chased the bag and now, nobody watches em.

they're rich golf fans!

they want PGA events back on their home turf. they don't care about the treatment of the golfers, they saw an opportunity and pounced on it.

it aligns with their. whole "white washing" marketing effort.

the obvious point is that liv should not have a seat at the table given their awful product. this would be like inviting vandy to the b10 because they have monied interests.

they already have one.

it worked.

seeing somebody honestly type "the PGA is in the driver's seat in these negotiations" made me laugh out loud.

it's the PGA's fault that this happened in the first place.

that's a false narrative. because entities are in negotiation does not define the outcome. it worked if there is some sort of arrangement going forward between liv and the pga.

The goal was to have a seat at the table.

They have one.

The fact there is even discussions between the 2 means it worked.

What they get will be more than they should have had the PGA had its house in order and hubris in check.

that's silly. it's a rationalization of the worst sort for a nebraskan.

That was the stated goal years ago.

I’m not rationalizing, I am merely stating facts.

That you dont like it doesn’t make it false. Sorry.

okay. you win. liv dies after having a seat at the table.
It will go away eventually.

And the result will be PIF involvement of some sort in the PGA Tour.

Could’ve been avoided entirely had the PGA Tour not been so hubristic and listened to its members.

Whole thing is a shame.

There’s a reason I included the NCAA in the title of this thread. PGA chose to repeat the ncaas mistakes instead of learning from them.

Just throwing this out there, since another “major” sports league (using that term loosely considering how far they have fallen in popularity) has partnered with a foreign entity.

Yep. Too much money not to reach out. Most of Europe is sponsored by the Middle East, the US is finally waking up. The PGAT could fix all of this by just ousting their entire leadership group and getting people in who understand how all of this works.

Out-of-the box idea: Donald Trump would make an excellent PGAT Commissioner. Someone who loves golf, has an expanded international economic perspective, and has experience with negotiating.

Don't attack me, please, for having this opinion. (I say that figuratively, not literally -- pun intended).

Are you really that dumb? First, Rahm was a PGA tour member when he won so your first written word makes you ignorant at best. Secondly, as I've written previously, LIV has 4-5 great golfers then it's made up of washed up old Euros. It's not that they may not win majors, it's that their viewing audience is like 50K people. LIV players are irrelevant outside of the majors and these 4-5 great golfers are regretting going to LIV despite the huge upfront cash.

If LIV was so irrelevant then why are they continually being talked about? They live rent free is so many people's heads including tour players. Tour players are starting to come around as well and it'll probably merged again soon. The PGAT players should be thanking LIV as their paydays have increased because of LIV.

cLOUless!

as an ex-business guy and avid golfer, i simply do not understand the fundamentals keeping liv alive sans saudi money. there's absolutely no audience for this claptrap. nobody cares about team golf or seeing them in shorts with blaring music. it's just nonsense on steroids and how it continues is beyond me. the pga would best ignore it until if burns of it's own bio-wastes.

I have told you over and over in this thread.

either you've forgotten, you cannot read, you cannot comprehend or you prefer willful ignorance to reality.

LIV is simply a loss leader for the PIF to earn a seat at the table with the PGAT. a trojan horse, if you will.

mission accomplished. it's too late for the PGAT to ignore it. they've already made every adjustment the players who went to LIV were asking them for, including increased purses, bonus structure, scheduling and more.

the knee has been bent. and when the LIV players reunite with the Tour, they will do so with a PIF representative in tow sitting side by side with the Chairman of the Tour.

it's all so obvious.

He is a K-State guy, so you will have to frame it like someone who is a 3rd grader, but probably can't read words larger than 4 letters.
