What is a Skid?​

Skids are the oldest type of platform used to support or store goods on, they’ve been used since the 1930’s.

Skids have a single loading platform that rests on feet connected to it.

I always thought since skid loaders loaded skids that's why they were called skid loaders. Sounds better than pallet loader to.
I always thought it was because they skid when they turned … we used to call them skidsteers or Bobcats.

You could be right, but most people call them skids whether they are used as a fork lift, a bucket loader, a post hole digger, etc. That's why I think it refers to the steering method.
They’re skidloaders amongst my farmer and construction homies in my neck of the woods.
