OT- Lincoln Home Depot. Wtf?

If the tractor reactor is still alive he's going to prison for a decade + for attempted murder on an LEO.

Why is a bobcat called a "Skid Loader?"

He is lucky he was not shot, likely because of innocents potentially in line of fire.

That looked like attempted murder of a cop.
because there's different skid loaders...maybe bobcat was the first if I remember..we had case and bobcat skid loaders

I always thought they should be called "tread loaders" or "track loaders" because starting in WWI that kind of arrangement was referred to as tank treads or half tracks. Skid loader IMHO always sounds sort of dangerous.

They're called skid loaders even if they have wheels instead of tracks. As I understand it, that's because the wheels (or tracks) are fixed in one direction and do not turn. So the only way to turn the machine is to accelerate one side more than the other, which means you will "skid" to get pointed in the direction you want to go.

What is a Skid?

Skids are the oldest type of platform used to support or store goods on, they’ve been used since the 1930’s.

Skids have a single loading platform that rests on feet connected to it.

I always thought since skid loaders loaded skids that's why they were called skid loaders. Sounds better than pallet loader to.

You could be right, but most people call them skids whether they are used as a fork lift, a bucket loader, a post hole digger, etc. That's why I think it refers to the steering method.

You’re lucky Skylar agrees with you, otherwise you’d receive a vacation
This board has moderators? My post was poorly worded and not meant to sound so political, but I waste enough time that I don't have on this board already so getting a permanent ban after probably 25 years on this site would be a gift I suppose.

The point I wanted to make with being lucky was if a guy poses on social media with a gun, I assume he's a gun owner. If a guy loses his mind, I'm glad he drove a skid loader instead of going out with a semi-automatic weapon (or whatever he posed with).

Ahhh, now that makes sense. A couple years ago a tree trimmer thinned out two huge elm trees in my yard. He used a tracked skid loader with a big pincher attachment on front to pick up limbs. He did around 20 pincher loads. He wasted a 20 X 40 section of lawn where he did 180 deg turns. The skid action was not kind to the grass and two years later I'm still working on making the lawn look right.

Yikes. Yeah that’s a lot of weight to drag back and forth across a lawn.
