Quite frankly, Wall Street got beat by some smart everyday people. I have no issue with them squeezing a hedgefund, especially at their own game. What bothers me is the stop trading by the interworkings of the financial markets, which is going to be interesting with the class actions that were filed today. The oligarchy hedge funds and bigs have been put on notice and likely regulation will come about.
So...watching pre market, looks like it's shaping up to be a fun day there.
Not 100% sure how I feel about this after thinking about it more and watching one pundit after another opine on this. Basically, a bunch of people with the liquid to mess with the market got together and colluded to affect a stock price, and if the institutions got caught doing that we'd be outraged, but we're OK with it since the retail guys did it? IDK.
Won't lose an ounce of sleep over it, and if somebody is going to win I'd prefer it be the little guy, but this feels a little like cheating to me.
Hedge fund people do this all the time and it’s no problem. Suddenly average joes get together and play the same game and now it's wrong.
Suck it Wall Street

I agree with the sentiment....
I also think Hedge Funds shouldn't be doing it ether and wen they do it would sure be nice if they were held accountable. So tired of rich and powerful people getting away with, everything.
I wish you would not have posted this...i'm loving readin this thread...and the market and world have been crooked for a long time, that didnt start last November.
Sorry, while i agree with the sentiment this is wrong.
there's a guy on the short trade and a guy on the long trade (or a series of guys as the case may be) and there are winners and losers. you're basically being mad that there are winners.
You're missing the whole point, the whole GME fiasco is a result of the Deep State Corruption Machine controlling all the rules, who wins, and who loses. Their backers definitely won't tolerate being blown up by a Reddit crowd. Portnoy is right, if they can do this they can do anything, like rig a presidential election.

I love self made winners...even stock market winners...this smells like it lacks integrity to me though. Like I said, won't lose an ounce of sleep over it and it's fascinating to watch.

They basically crowdfunded a short squeeze and then had the whales jump in and help (because you know damn well they did at some point because blood in the water is blood in the water).
This is completely legal under the current rules. The only problem i see at this point is if this gets weaponized/politicized (which it will in the current climate given how well this worked).
I did not know it was legal for a bunch of different liquid people to get together and manipulate a stock price...I thought it was the exact opposite. Honestly though, I hope some funds that usually do it to others, gets slaughtered, but I am not an "The ends justifies the means" kind of guy. We just lived through that for 4 straight relentless years, and that's the kind of thing third world crooked countries do. Even if the ends benefits my line of thinking or pocketbook, I want fairness and integrity in the financial and political system.
They bought and held. How is that any different than a mutual fund or warren buffet for that matter?
How many people have investment clubs? How is this any different?
Hopefully it affects hedge funds quite drastically. Having seen these people who manage hedge funds, they are quite simply degenerates who dress in suits and drive ferraris. They have for many years "beaten the system" and more power to them, but they are playing (very) high stakes poker and somehow think they are the brilliant ones in the room. Last I checked, if you play poker, you have to also be vulnerable to lose. These hedge funds aren't able to lose billions for nothing. They've won billions already through the market.I wonder how this will affect hedge funds and the market in general when there is now a possible threat in the back of their minds. Unless laws are changed to prevent this in the future, the threat from the plebs is real and can be quick and devastating.
Couldn't happen to a better bunch of thugs.
Cry more lib 😭Exhibit 4,001 of why I barely come here anymore. Do the mods even care about enforcing the policies anymore?
Exhibit 4,003.

I don't wish negative outcomes to people simply because they are rich, but I have no problem seeing these gamblers get a taste of the downside when they're playing poker.
I'm merely suggesting that the DNA of these guys isn't much different than the DNA of a guy running bets through a bookie. This is one of the most self contradictory posts I've seen here.
Also, I aspire to be the kind of degenerate who drives a Ferrari.
I agree, don't think these guys or their intentions are any better than the hedge fund managers.So...watching pre market, looks like it's shaping up to be a fun day there.

And you choose to bring attention to it because you can't resist crying. Generally, this is a concept understood by small children with basic social skills. And there is the one. There's always one. It is so tiring that people can't have a legitimate conversation about anything happening in the world without someone inserting politics and even further, debunked conspiracy theories. Please stick with facts and participate like a normal person.
Been here a lot longer than you, think I'd be in a better position to judge when this place has gone to shit.Be careful of the door! The spring is kind of touchy. Swings back extra hard.

You get bothered over people on a forum feeling differently than you. When you stop thinking for yourself, over time you turn into someone like you, that goes with group think and cries when seeing ideas to the contrary. If you have formulated your opinions based on your own assessments, and are confident in your ability to come to conclusions, why let opposition control your emotions? My guess is you are college educated, but dumb, and with a dulled ability to see things as they are, and call balls and strikes when you see them, not just when they enforce your groupthink.Exhibit 4,003.
This is true. There is some honesty in small pockets, but nobody is getting rich quick from it.Those talking about stock manipulation, that was already being done on $GME by the hedges. They were forcing it down and trying to clean up doing it. The market isn’t what it was intended to be today, it’s not a place to raise capital for companies, it’s a place for billionaires to gamble and get more rich, usually with others money.
Let me guess... you're the opposite of all those things, right? LOLYou get bothered over people on a forum feeling differently than you. i wasn't the one complaining smart guy. merely an observation. you are soft tattling to the mods and complaining about dissenting opinions. Apples and oranges buddy. So you bringing attention to my post is what?
