OT: Directv/ATT still sucks

Dish isn’t much better, the hopper is a joke and they don’t want to negotiate anymore either, to bad there the only option in rural areas that don’t have high speed internet

Before and after is where television watching was and will be good. We are unfortunately all in the middle. The middle being where companies aren't sure which direction TV, DVR's, blue ray, streaming etc is going to go and how fast. We all know it eventually will be 100% streaming over Internet. But some are slowly moving that way, which means we'll have pockets of poor negotiated agreements and more and more networks disappearing off cable/satellite. It's time for the consumer to dictate this thing and all move to streaming.

I had Dish for many years, switched to Direct and their service was terrible. Wanted to go back to Dish after Direct wouldn't deal and we worked out a deal. Direct called me a day before cut off and made me a deal for $50 a month, including the monthly service agreement and they bumped me up another level which gave me some outdoor programs. It ends in May.

Direct finally has things working much better, at least for me. When I called Dish they offered me a better deal but still not good enough.

While Dish had always had better service, the packages for Dish are terrible compared to Direct. I had to keep going up a package to get this sports package and then another, they seemed to keep just enough in the next package to make you want to bump up.

I am like you, I want off this merry to round.

Dropped em after having them for 15 years about a years ago. DTV sucked royally after AT&T took them over. Everything AT&T touches turns to $@!t. Their phone serves blows, too. I had switched to them from Verizon and was under a contract that they totally lied about. Dropped called constantly, costumer service sucks when you call, in store help is effing worthless, and when it is all said and done, they are actually MORE than Verizon for a $h!!//er service.

I heard that AT&T was/is trying to dump Direct.....as soon as they do, I will try it again. Not until then, though. AT&T sucks....bad. I have Hulu right now....they were fine until they jacked the rates up to $55 a month. On top of that, you have to buy an extra sports package to get what you want and Hulu does not have NEAR the channel choices that Direct TV/Dish has.

I wish I wasn’t in such a rural area with crappy cable choices.......lol

Yep in the very near future cable companies, especially smaller ones will be put out of business completely. The larger ones and Direct tv will have to adjust to the streaming world. Which in a why it amazes me that these cable companies don't negotiate more willingly. They are basically putting nails in their own coffins. I have managed to get DTV to cut my bill in half the last 3 years, but the second they stop doing that Im gone.

ATT customer service is the worst ever. I thought Sprint was bad, but ATT takes the cake. Everyone you talk to says they can help you, assures you they are the right person to fix your problem, and 45 minutes later they transfer you to someone else in a wrong department, you wait on hold another 30 minutes, and the fun starts all over again. Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!

Wish I could convince others in my household to cut the cord.

Sucks that playstation vue is ending at the end of the month. Great service and price was very good. I helped my parents cut the cord and they've saved so much money every month. Hopefully Hulu Live is as good or better.

AT&T disgusts me! After 26 years with them my loyalty discount ended. They do not have an employee that I can talk with that will reestablish my $60 a month discount. Bill has gone from $110.00 a month to $170.00 Three story condo requires 3 receiver's. Who's service should I try?

YouTube TV seems good. Only reason I have direct tv is that I live in Indiana and I’m a Bills fan and need NFL Ticket. Not a fan of Direct TV and the 46 shows it records because someone accidentally hits the record button

There are other streaming options for watching such games.

When I last negotiated with DirecTV they offered me a one year deal at $65, then the standard increase in price for the second year. I told them I wasn't going to agree to a one year "deal" where the price skyrocketed after one year. I said I want a deal that has the same price for the 2 year contract or I was walking. After some hemming and hawing they came back with 2 years at $79. I agreed to that. My first year ended a month ago and low and behold, they denied that we ever entered such an agreement and jacked my price up to $130/month. I am in the process of finding a different provider and intend to have some fun fighting their attorneys.

When AT&T took over DirecTV it turned from a company that I'd had very few problems with to a pile of crap. Now a lying pile of crap.

It is. Get all the sports channels you want and I like the feature that you can just punch Nebraska in the library and it will record the game no matter what time they play or channel they are on. Love that feature

Youtube TV has BTN, all the ESPN and Fox Sports Channels, and local channels for $50/month.

Vue was even better, but their service ends at the end of this month. I pretty much can find streams online for most sports and download most shows that I want to watch. I am contemplating completely cutting the cord. I am considering YTTV.

Roku or Firestick for YouTube TV?

I have a FireTV device, but I haven't tried YTTV yet. I'm going to wait until the end of the month to start the YTTV trial. I've paid for Vue and I want to use it. The site says they have an app for YTTV. Has anyone tried YTTV with the FireTV? YTTV's site says they support Roku as well.

I used the free trial of YoutubeTV last year for 7days and liked it. I will be switching to that next month once Playstation Vue closes.

SlingTV seems to be the only service that still carries NFL Network and Redzone, but they don't have BTN or local channels so I can't do that.

I am still fighting with DTV over receivers they say I didn’t return. I kept the Fedex shipping receipts and printed the Fedex tracking info and forwarded copies to them but they still plan to turn me over to collection. Eff them. Fedex shows that my receivers were delivered to Houston. Their lazy-assed warehouse people evidently have such a large number of returned equipment to inventory that they can’t keep up. FYI...YouTube TV is $49.99 per month and has everything I need plus they have additional options and NO contract. Screw DTV and their Filipino call center.

I'm hoping I don't have to deal with that. When I cancelled a couple weeks ago the lady on the phone said I needed to return them within 10 days by dropping them off at FedEx or UPS. I got an e-mail the next day saying not to bother returning my equipment with instructions on how to recycle if I wanted. I decided to just keep the equipment for now until I get my final statement.

No ketv/abc. I know, I know...I need to pull the trigger on cutting the cord.

Do your research before cutting the cord. One of the ways internet providers are trying to combat people from cutting the cord is by imposing monthly data caps. If you live by yourself or your family doesn't watch TV, it probably isn't a big deal.

As an example, SlingTV uses about 1.6 GB (with 4K programming becoming more common, that 1.6 GB can quickly become 2x to 4x)
an hour of data. Now, you'd have to leave a TV on 20 hours a day for the month to reach a 1 TB cap. However, if you have 4 family members each streaming something different on 4 TVs, that obviously cuts the TV time to 5 hours a day. That is still a lot of TV, but none of that includes any of your other regular internet surfing activities (i.e., youtube, gaming, porn (I jest), etc).

More than likely, you'll be fine.

That's why I don't switch from cable internet. I wish there was a viable alternative where I'm at. It's reliable and fast. They just jacked it up when I unbundled some years back. Their marketing leaves no doubt that they spy on my online activities.

No contracts. No data caps. I'm getting 200M now. I've all my home devices hardwired. All phones and tablets have access to WiFi.

Tried both YouTube TV and the Hulu+LiveTV. Oddly enough the Hulu service doesn’t include our biggest independent channel here in metro Phoenix, which is a dealbreaker for my wife who watches that channel every morning. Both services meet my needs and are similar, but unfortunately their programming options suffer from lack of customizability, the same issue that has PO’d cable customers for 50 years or more. Also the interfaces need work but the services seem to be the future and will surely improve their interfaces.
