OSU with two first round picks and Alabama with three so far. I think OSU had a dozen or so player drafted last year. I look forward to those days.

It's crazy how the talent has been concentrated and stacked the last few years. Even at the peak, Nebraska was never at this level. Is there any question why certain teams are always in the hunt? We have a long ways to go, one year at a time.

4 and 5 stars everywhere in the first round. hmmm funny how that works. Glad Riley is star gazing. F U Bo
Not rocket science. Recruit better players and the wins will come. That will translate into more NFL draft picks. Rinse and repeat yearly. No secret why Bama has top classes yearly and is in contention for National titles every year. Same goes for OSU. Speed and talent. Talent and speed.

Oh trust me, I know. Tons on this board disagreed that stars mattered. Say what you want about Rivals, but they do a damn good job at evaluating talent and projecting their futures.

Stars matter a lot more than they used to no that the sites have a lot better knowledge and talent evaluators. While you can hit a home run with a 2 star the chances of doing it are exponentially batter as you go up tge star rankings.

I liken it to blackjack

2 star you have 17 and the dealer is showing a face card. You still got a chance to win that hand but winning multiple gands like that is rare.

5 star you have 20 and the dealer shows 6. Odds are you are going to win a lot of those hands but might lose one every now and then

There is a reason why Bama is Bama and teams like Iowa State are who they are.

Stars matter

even a modest improvement in recruiting efforts might have yielded much better results. maybe eliminated a few blow outs...10-11 wins or more a year...a conf. title or two...top 10 finish here or there...big difference.

its all still well within reach.

$o what is Alabama'$ $ecret to $ucce$$?

Alabama is not the only program that compensates players....it happens all over, all the time.

Bama has been doling out the dough under every coach going back to the Bear.

Why didn't it work for Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Gene Stallings, Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mikke Price, or Mike Shula?

Their secret to success is Nick Saban.

I thought it was pretty impressive last night when they said after Williams from Clemson got drafted, that in 3 of the last 5 drafts Clemson has had a WR taken in the first round. That is a pretty nice track record to have.

Is this the same Nick Saban who got bent over by Tom Osborne when he was at Michigan State? Sorry, not impressed.

Your analogy can come back to bite you - the same could be said for Tom and Barry. Barry owned Tom and NU for years.

Not sure how you measure success but Bama has been consistently at the top for a while now with no hints at slowing down. Explain that one besides all of the players are paid a kings ransom to play there. He and his coaching staff are doing something right in their coaching as it shows up on the field and in the draft.

Good one.

So, Nick Saban is not a coaching icon because TO and he faced off in 1995 with Nebraska having possibly the best team to ever play CFB and MSU having......Tony Banks?

Hardware talks and no one has more of it right now than Nick Saban. When it is all over he will likely be the best ever and his absence will bring Bama back to earth.

I will judge Nick Saban when all is said and done. And many photos of his players posing with brand new Chevy Camaros doesn't bode well for his legacy. Cheating to win doesn't make you a winner. Alabama is arguably the dirtiest program in NCAA history so it's like their fans can say it doesn't happen there.

Yep its like they all expect us to believe that Alabama is the only state who pays part time workers 46 k a year to afford to buy them type of cars and trucks. Because we all know not ever player that goes to Bama has rich parents that can afford to buy there college sons 2016 Muscle cars. Gosh its almsot Crystal clear whats going on there.

Sad part about you slinging mud at Saban and Alabama is you probably think Tom and Nebraska were squeaky clean. Lol....

Exactly. We cheated big time. Just ask the Peter brothers. TO became great when Barry Switzer retired. Let's not forget that Peopke wanted TO out!! Luckily Barry retired and TO could finally compete and win the recruiting war. If Barry stayed, TO's story is not a happy ending.

There are even public facilities for such deposits

Yep. Cant believe we even put up with it. Probably shouldnt have. Woulda had way more titles without him. Dont ya know he only won 9 a year like bo? Nevermind that they played less games and never had 1aa schools. My grandfather and father both remember all 70 percent of fans that wanted him gone. They agree that it wasnt only a handful that are remembered as being more valid than they were, oh no it had to be more than half. Couldnt ever beat switzer, thats for sure. He cheated worse than anyone, too. In fact the only reason nebraska was ever good is because we cheated. No one else ever did. No reason to remember them days, best to tarnish them as they deserve to be se can feel better about our current situation, right?

Actually, Nebraska was at that level. Hell, the '97 team sent 18 starters to the NFL. The biggest difference between then and now is the type of offensive systems utilizing more premium skill talent. Nebraska was able to function with wideouts like Matt Davison and Kenny Cheatem back then. They were good college players, but wouldn't be starters for National Title teams nowadays.

But one thing that always has and always will remain a constant is the front 7 on defense and QB play. Nebraska dictated the line of scrimmage when their opponents had the football. They also had elite QB play.
