His recruiting defensively at certain positions was weak. There is still more talent on this team than most will give credit for.. The laughable thing was listening to the fluff before the season how much talent we had on defense and how we were going to play much faster. Bo just couldn't coach them. Now it's we have no talent, so did Bo coach his no talent hacks up then? When things don't go a certain way for some, they change their narrative to fit their agenda.
Coach them up? Did you have blinders on watching our defense last year? You missed my point. You harp on Bo being a great D Coordinator. Sure...but he never stayed at a school long enough to have to recruit to his defense. All of his top defenses were based on using someone else's recruits. I'm not sure what board you were reading but our lack of depth at LB and DE was talked about many times on here during the offseason. I guess Bo is a great defensive coordinator as long as someone else is bringing in players for him

I do think a lot of it comes down to talent. Bohl had similar talent in 2002 on defense and Cosgrove had pretty good defensive talent in 2004. Bo did much better than both of them in his one year here in 2003. I get your point, he did well with other people's talent. He was also at LSU for 3 years. So he did recruit some pretty good talent there. Some of those players did play for him. LSU was also fine defensively after he left.' It is also much easier recruiting talent to LSU and other places in the south. He did what most good d-coordinators do. He came in and had a pretty good defense from day one. An honest question for you. Do you really see Banker as the answer defensively? I thought he was the weakest hire from the start. I just don't see much evidence he will turn out good defenses on a normal basis.

In fact I just saw on 247sports the other day a ranking of composite team talent...we are 4th in the BIG TEN and 25th nationally...we dont have lack of talent...lack of depth maybe, but not talent.

The problem is that we have lots of talent at DT, WR and maybe RB and absolutely no depth at linebacker. Guess what that talent ranking doesn't mean crap when the guys at a key position can't stay on the field due to injury. We also lost two STARTERS off the defense that were likely included in that evaluation before the season ever started in Alexander and Santos.
