Oklahoma is officially Nebraska 2.0 (maybe worse)

Oklahoma is only Nebraska 2.0 if they suffer the next 20 year's in this condition. This year's a good start for them...errrrr.....bad start.
They think they’re Alabama/Georgia tier when they’re barely Arkansas/Missouri.

Funniest reality check to watch, and I’m loving listening to their fans cope about Venables at the office.

I saw a YouTube video by an A&M fan about this; OU fans were losing their shit, saying no way are we the next Nebraska. Of course they struggled in the 90's in the Big8/Big 12, so it's not unreasonable to think they will have down periods in the SEC. They will always be able to recruit Texas, but they are facing teams with equal or greater talent every week now.

OU will be fine. They will fire Venables while we will stupidly retain the preacher man. They will then hire a proven head coach like Heupel and be back into playoff form in one year. We will go two more years with losing seasons while we obsess over the lack of shitter access in the south end zone.

Our problem is we have had idiots as AD’s since Osborne left and an idiot AD before he came back. As much as Solich and Pelini were in many ways disappointing, they were our two best coaches post Osborne. And guess who hired them?

Does Daneen have the brains and balls to fire Rhule as he should after only 2 years? We will see.
I know the majority on here think firing Rhule at the end of this season would be monumentally stupid and rash. Emotional. Panicky. Immature. And maybe that is true. But I trust my eyes and know what I see. I see a shit football team that is poorly coached and prepared. And as we near the end of year two there should have been a minimum threshold of improvement asked for. There has been none.

That last sentence is really the problem. When that occurs coaching matters soooo much more. Venables comes up short in that category. Until that changes I'm not sure how they will fare any better. The SEC is so deep that basically you have an off day or not you are losing. It's that simple. Margin of error is much smaller than all the other conferences due to the talent and the coaching (BIG included).

I think they are more likely to not be fine. Middle of the road is probably their ceiling. Heupel has been fired there once before. He’s worked too hard to get Tennessee in position to give Oklahoma the luxury of firing him a second time.

Who are these proven head coaches that everyone thinks are so easy to come by? I want one.

Oklahoma is fishing out of the same pond as everyone else. With SEC now firmly established there, they are not getting the best out of state. They’ll still get plenty of good players, but there’s no expectation that they can get the elite and out recruit Texas and A&M, among others. They are going to have to get used to 3 to 5 losses per year.

3 losses a year might be pretty good in nfl lite coming soon...they did'nt put top brands in 2 conferences to beat the hell out each other..without a big payday....

OU's standing in the SEC being similar to NU in the Big 10 is a legit comparison. Both schools were established in the Big 8/Big 12. But OU doesn't have any such advantages in the SEC. One example is recruiting territory. OU is going to struggle to bring in Texas kids who want to play in the SEC when UT, A&M, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, et al. are already well established there. And recruiting their other recruiting territories sucha s Oklahoma, Wichita, KC is not going to cut it. But then again, winning is not the priority. Money is.

Like I mentioned before I wish Rhule would have gutted the older players and started from scratch in year 1 , I blame those players for being a cancer, by not doing that hes between a rock and hard place, you have certain people who think he can win with them. And this year this teams Super Bowl was Colorado since that game they haven’t played close to the intensity. Yes I blame the coaches more than the players but the older players have a certain amount of responsibility that they’ve failed miserably

I totally forgot Heupel was there before. Good catch. But my point stands and I respectfully disagree with your assessment of OU being a perpetual 3 loss team and middle of the SEC. Due to their proximity to Texas and their strong history of recruiting there I think they will be fine.

? I don't understand the hate.. we have always had fairly respectful interactions with OU and their fanbase.. Personally don't like seeing posts like this directed at that school or fanbase.

Yup, my entire family roots for the Sooners, many alums. I’m an outlier being a Husker fan. They may not like Nebraska, but they give me the best wishes and I genuinely think they want Nebraska to be good again, just so I’m not miserable.

I enjoy OU, although at a very distant view.

I’m sure many of you have varying opinions on OU, but I’ll always have respect for them.

They ran Heupel out of town. I doubt he forgives what the boosters did to him. He’s not leaving Rocky Top unless somebody offers a lengthy HUGE contract OR things completely fall apart for him in which case OU wouldn’t want him.

The older players aren’t the problem. The OC and a freshman QB are the problems. The knee jerk reaction is to blame everyone instead of identifying the problem and fixing it. I don’t care how polished a freshman QB looks in practice, you can’t call the offense as if he’s a veteran NFL QB.

Fix the OC’s play calling and we’re at 7 wins right now. 😡

It is an obervable fact Nebraska leadership has not done whatever it takes to get back to the top. Let's see if Oklahoma leadership will or if they will be satisfied to sell hope while milking their fanbase dry for decades.

It’s an observable FACT that they’ve tried to do whatever it takes to get back to the top. They’ve poured tens of millions of dollars in to coaches, staff, facilities, players etc and thus far it hasn’t worked. It’s yet to be seen if Rhule can edit his staff and make it work.

It appears that hiring head football coaches is a bit of the roll of the dice and a lot of that coach’s success is built on his coordinators and starting QBs. Right now we have a struggling freshman QB and a subpar OC. Bringing in Holgerson is more evidence of an administration being willing to spend the money to “do what it takes”. Will more experience and a new OC help Raiola or do we need to hit the portal this off season to fix our QB situation.

OU has boatloads of talent, and just like when they got Stoops, the next good staff that shows up in Sooner land is going to be happy that they did, won't take them long to turn the Schooner around.

Their talent is middle of the road in the SEC at max......

Why fire Venables? He's a good coach overall. Might playing in the SEC actually be really hard? Expectations have to come down a bit. They just aren't going to play for the conf championship almost every year anymore. That's the hard reality of being in the SEC.

They've had top ten classes the past five years and even beyond. It's not a talent problem, it's a coaching problem. A better staff could figure out where to plug in the pieces and get them going again. Sooners in the last ten years are 7-3 against Texas, and right now, the horns have the better staff.

Just chalk it up to $&it stirrers..
Majority of the older posters respect OU.
My biggest bitch with ou is they didn’t want to continue to yearly rivalry game with Nebraska when the big 12 was formed and they always voted with Texas never supported Nebraska just like all the other teams, had the annual rivalry continued we wouldn’t be in the crappy big 10, maybe the big 12 doesn’t have the money the big ten get but there brand of football is more fun to watch some of the big 10 games are painful to watch
