NU vs. Indiana & Ohio State baseball pod

Nebraska's magic number is four. If we win four of the final six, we win the conference. If everybody else loses at least one game, the magic number is three. If everybody else loses at least two games, it's two. With the contenders playing each other over these last two weekends (other than Iowa), it's likely everybody will lose at least one game.

Tiebreakers likely will not come into play because Nebraska's maximum games played will be 43, while everyone else is likely to play 44 (Maryland, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa) or 42 (Ohio State).

Standings (Contenders only)
Nebraska 26-11 0 GB
Maryland 25-14 2 GB
Michigan 25-14 2 GB
Indiana 24-14 2.5 GB
Iowa 23-16 4 GB
Ohio State 19-16 6 GB

Saturday's Games
Nebraska vs. OSU, noon
Iowa at Northwestern, 1 p.m.
Maryland at Michigan, 4 p.m. (BTN)
Nebraska at Indiana, 5:30 p.m. (ESPNU)

Sunday's Games
Nebraska vs. Ohio State, noon
Maryland at Michigan, noon
Iowa at Northwestern, noon
Ohio State at Indiana, 4 p.m. (BTN)

Monday's Game
Ohio State at Indiana, 5 p.m. (BTN)

FINAL WEEKEND
Indiana at Maryland (3 games)
Michigan at Nebraska (3 games, Fri-Sun, noon, BTN)
Iowa at Michigan State (3 games)
Northwestern at Ohio State (3 games)
BTN is now going to carry the Ohio St game on Sunday noon.

IU Coach Mercer went off early this week on the continued policy of “family only” allowed to attend. Talked up the importance of the series and what a crowd could do to help the atmosphere and everyone’s spirits.

Bowing to typical bureaucratic wokeness of the times, Led by hide in the basement, Zoom loving, do as I say, not as I do politicians and civil servants who run Monroe County, IU admins, with no backbone themselves, dutifully capitulate.

It’s ridiculous!! They are playing outside!! I’m sure if it was another Lefty protest like last summer, all would be good.

What happens if everybody loses all of their games and Iowa wins all of their games?

IU could certainly use the support. They could play their way out of the postseason.

I'm this obsessed (because I don't want to have to hear from my neighbors and/or random store clerks about how Nebraska never beats Iowa in anything):

I figured out what it would take for Iowa to win the conference.
  • Iowa wins all of its games.
    • Final record 28-16.
  • Nebraska loses to Indiana and twice to Ohio State, then wins 1 of 3 versus Michigan.
    • Final record 27-16.
  • Maryland wins this weekend's final two at Michigan, then wins 1 of 3 versus Indiana.
    • Final record 28-16, but loses tiebreaker to Iowa based on season series, which Iowa won 3-1.
  • Michigan loses this weekend's final two games versus Maryland, then beats Nebraska 2 of 3.
    • Final record 27-17.
  • Indiana beats Nebraska, loses twice to OSU, then wins 2 of 3 at Maryland.
    • Final record 27-17.
It would be nice to beat them in something other than volleyball. I mean, in football we've won just one division championship in the 10 years of B1G divisions. That would be embarrassing for any big-time program. ;)

Caught the game on TV, first one I've seen this year. Nice job Huskers!

Not a good start today. Left bases loaded in first AND then give up 2 run HR to start bottom of the first . Down 0-2

Safe to say tOSU will not sweep both Nebraska and Indiana this weekend...I would even question Ioway sweeping MSU who has won 4 of the last 5 games .

One more note on this, if it plays out:

Had Nebraska played and won the third game against Northwestern last weekend, this would be moot. Iowa would be eliminated because a three-way 28-16 tiebreak with Iowa and Maryland goes to Nebraska for having won both season series.

Stupid COVID.

Will NW have more than 6 pitchers this weekend?

Winning one game at home against Rutgers should not have been an impossible task.

Stupid COVID? Nebraska baseball should be thankful for it actually. Max Anderson would be playing at Texas AM otherwise. That virus could be a real program changer for us in the end .
