NU - KU basketball

Cream of the crop? Not always. They have one of the best back courts in the country with Mason and Graham, who both were not heavily recruited. They were committed to Towson St and Appalachian St before KU started recruiting them and got them to switch. Pretty sure any Power 5 Conference team could have convinced them to switch their commitments from those 2 schools. Bill Self is good at identifying talent for his system and developing it, along with bringing in some highly rated 4-5 Stars.

Nebraska did get in on Graham after he de-committed from App State. But so did Kansas. How many of those battles have we won?

There has never been a successful undersized big man in basketball . never ever never and if you had ever played basketball you would know that. Besides being too short and not being able to make shots, this is the most talented team ever.
I assume you are kidding, but for those who really believe it: Wes Unseld at 6'7" and Dave Cowens at 6'8" did ok in the era of giant centers like Wilt. Russell gave up at least 4 inches to Wilt but did ok. Charles Barkley at 6'5" could hold his own against any 7 footer.

My point is that a good coach can find under-rated players who will flourish in their system. Plus not every player on KU's roster is a 5 Star recruit. 4 of their top 7 players were either not rated or were 3 Stars or less when recruited by KU. Svi was not rated, Lucas was a 3 star and then Graham and Mason. Need to be able to identify the talent and develop it. Not seeing that from the Nebraska Staff right now.

Kansas can recruit on a different level but they are also superior in their player development. However we should be able to compete in recruiting with Creighton. Creighton's guards, wings and post players run laps around ours. Tai is having a great year but he is a One-Man-Show right now on offense and probably the only player we have that could possibly crack their starting roster but doubt he would beat out Foster. Jody would be a good back-up to Patton but if Hansen was healthy Jordy would be #3 on their depth chart. Morrow and Watson would see some minutes off the bench for them.

Of course getting the ball to Morrow more often wasn't going to change the outcome of the KU game, or the UCLA game. I haven't seen anyone here argue that, or argue that those games were winnable no matter the offensive strategy. I'm way more concerned about the games in which Nebraska matches up fairly well talent-wise, especially in conference play. Those are the games that are going to determine whether Miles has a future at NU, and I think he wins more of those games with some kind of post presence, as opposed to relying solely on perimeter shots.

I actually think NU has a chance to put up a pretty decent conference record this year, but not if they have those long stretches like last year where they avoid the paint like quicksand.
Well I agree If Ed matches up well with the D then by all means do everything we can to get a bunny instead of a 20 foot jump shot. We have been trying to get it to Tshimanga down low and he's had some success. He's a much easier target to pass to. I think he just gets better every game I see him play. People keep bringing up Barkley and guys like Dave Cowens as being successful in the pros but Cowens was closer to 6-9 to 6-10 and just an absolute mauler that could hit a mid range jumper. Barkley weighed over 265 for much of his career and just pushed people out of the road. You can't get away with that, or at least we can't, in the B1G. IF we go .500 in the B1G this year, I will be surprised and happy. I just think these kids are year away and then we HAVE to find another guard to replace Tai (preferably 2 guards) that can play right away.

We need more than that. Unless something changes on the offensive end we will be talking about the same issues next year.

McVeigh, Jacobson, and gill were supposed to be able to shoot.

I'm not sure how anyone can say Ed Morrow is our "best player and most consistent scoring threat". Tai Webster fits that, followed by Watson, then Morrow. Without a doubt Ed is our best post threat and is fearless down low but let's not get unrealistic trying to prove a point.
I agree that Webster is our best player right now and most consistent scoring threat. What I think Morrow is, is our best inside threat that gives us a chance to go to in the post from time to time to try to help break a scoring drought. He is a high energy player who gets a lot of garbage buckets by his hustle alone. He's the type of player teams need. Not afraid to do the dirty work.

That sounds good but tough to do when you recruit a roster that has quite a bit of poor shooters.
We recruited guys that shot the ball pretty damned well in high school. It always seemed to me that when one guy gets hot the rest of the the team tends to shoot better too. The opposite also seems to be true. I've played and watched a lot of basketball in the last 50 years and shooting is without a doubt at least half mental. I'm hopeful that it will turn around. The first thing I would do is get their butts out of the weight room and make sure they get their legs some rest.
