Going forward if Gangwish and Freedom are on the edges, do we get anymore of a pass rush to help turn the tide?

Discuss...

I think I actually like that lineup a little better, and have McMullen rotate in at both DE and DT giving us some depth. He isn't going to light it up by any means, but maybe making the transition will help add us even a small amount of pressure. Maybe that can help free up the blitz as well. I guess we will see.

Can't be any LESS of a rush so I'd say yes we should get more. Healthy Gangwish and surging young Freedom has to be a plus IMO.

Not sure what's up with McMullen, but they need to do something in passing situations to generate better pressure.

Is it just me, or has NU done just an AWFUL job of getting blitzers to the QB? Corner blitzes seem to do ok, but guys coming through the middle have been just impotent. They can bring 2 or 3 extra and if somebody actually attempts a blitz pickup it's like the LB is magnetize and just sticks to the front of the blocker. GET AROUND SOMEBODY.

Same way on the DL. Some of that is the kind of guy they've recruited to come in and be a 2-gapping end, but sweet Jesus, what's hard about speed rushing fast or bull rushing violently? Or failing that, get your damn hands up.

Happy with their run stopping so far, but not at all impressed with the pass rush. Freedom is making sacks, but other than him do you have anyone who can go get a QB?

on the newly released depth chart it's Freedom & McMullen as the two defensive ends, both are backed up by Dzuris

Agree Beav, you just see no burst out of them trying to get to the QB. Pin your ears back and go!

Yeah I saw that. In my opinion it is just going to be hard to keep Freedom off the field going forward since he has had the most success, and I think Gangwish may be a touch better than McMullen but who knows on that one. It'll be interesting, but I think McMullen could give us some depth at the DT and it wouldn't be a hard transition. He might even thrive there as he has a huge body, and may, and its a big may, a little more quickness than a few of the others. Who knows..

McMullen has no motor (or hasn't shown it yet). Or it could be that his motor can't carry the extra lbs. on his chasis?

Not convinced Gangwish is 100%. Probably still pretty sore around that elbow. But Gangwish does play harder than McMullen so maybe that counts for something.
