Haven't seen this yet but does anyone know why MR got the 15 yard penalty last Saturday? That came out of no where.

Because of a no call on obvious pass interference by Wisconsin.

I thought about that Sparky. Riley said he didn't swear, so it must have been something personal like "you need to go back to calling little league"

Both were interference. First one was not called. Not a makeup call when they merely got it right.

I thought they both were interference in theory, but the first one was must worse than the second. Cethan had the defender put a hand on him if I remember correctly. Reilly had a guy draped all over him as he came back for the ball.

I think the reason Riley got the penalty was he continued to argue the call, and it was when he went Bo and pointed his finger in the refs face, that was the tipping point. He was smart in running the exact play again, so as to put pressure on the refs to make that same call twice. They gave him a make-up call in my eyes.

He got it when he went to the finger in the face. You can say an awful lot because the ref knows the crowd isn't hearing it. Once the ref feels like he is being showed up, the flag comes out. Also, I think this is a point of emphasis this year.

I really am not a huge fan of coaches trying to get the flag in football. (And I doubt Riley was after it.) In basketball coaches will often do it to change the momentum or to get the crowd on their side. Plus, everyone simply is closer for much more of the game in basketball. Yelling in football really doesn't accomplish a whole lot...Bo should have learned this.

This was a brilliant and veteran move by HCMR. He showed passion to the team and fans contesting the no call, possibly trying to get the flag. Then went right back to that side of the field (cant remember if it was the same corner) with Cethan Carter for an obvious mismatch causing the Wisconsin corner interfere and the ref to call PI. HCMR won that battle and showed subtle moxie.

That no call really screwed us out of points on that drive.
Gotta agree... The way it played out we returned to the original line of scrimmage. If it gets called correctly the first time, we are 15 yards closer. With the wind at our backs, that would have helped tremendously. Would brown have hit the kick? Maybe, maybe not. But he does look better after the first game debacle.

Agree 100%, a great move to pressure the ref and throw it right back to the same spot, the 2nd wasn't PI IMO but that's not the point. The play call intended to force a call in our favor. I really don't ever recall a coach doing that. He targeted that official with his play call and dared him to make another call against the home team.
