CNBC recently came out with the rankings of the 75 most valuable college athletic programs. The SEC and Big 10 dominate the top ten with six and three schools respectively.
Ohio State University is ranked as the most valuable program, worth an estimated $1.32 billion due to factors such as:
• An alumni base of over 600,000 • A fan base of more than 11 million • Boosters that donated nearly $60M last year, and a football team that • An average attendance of over 100,000 at its games at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Other Big Ten schools in the Top Ten are the University of Michigan (ranked 4th, $1.06 billion) and the University of Nebraska (ranked 8th, $943 million). The SEC schools in the Top Ten are University of Texas (ranked 2nd, $1.28 billion), Texas A&M (ranked 3rd , $1.26 billion), University of Alabama (ranked 5th, $978 million), University of Georgia (ranked 7th, $950 million), University of Tennesse (ranked 9th, $940 million) and the University of Oklahoma (ranked 10th, $928 million).
Here’s the value breakdown of the top conferences: • The SEC is worth about $13.3 billion with an average of $832M per school • The Big Ten is worth about $13.2 billion with an average of $734M per school • The ACC is worth about $10 billion with an average of $558M per school • The Big 12 is worth about $6.7 billion with an average of $420M per school

Anyone who wants to go back in time to the sisters of the poor Big 12.RollingLaugh

Everyone else is swimming N our wake.

Our resident Big XIl honks are a curious bunch. They would literally cut off their own dicks to get back their HS girlfriend who’s barely a 4 now. Weird crew…

Bingo. Like you said going back to the watered down Big 12 is like finally banging your HS crush who is now 40 with 4 kids. Hey, let's give up 300 plus million to go back N time and play with a bunch of nobodies.

Yeah, definitely much more sane to celebrate money that has amounted to nothing on the field and other team's successes. All while constantly bitching that the league is against us and reeling in mediocrity ourselves.

To be clear, I don't advocate that we go back. But I do wish we would have never left in the first place. Hindsight's always 20/20 though I suppose

Every piece of current evidence suggests that even if we were in the Big XII, and if we won more games in the Big XII, we likely wouldn’t be prepared to win at the highest level. Less money in one way or another results poorer recruiting and transfer results. And ultimately iron sharpens iron. When/if we field a team that makes the playoffs the B1G will have us better prepared to win at the highest level. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Big XII never wins another National Championship. And I don’t think it would shock you that much either. Is that the conference you want to be in? 🥴

There is literally zero logical reasons to go back to that glorified G5 conference. Our current wife may have some issues, but she’s way hotter and way richer than our trailer trash ex.

The money is much better in the B1G, but much easier path to the CFP in that conference.

Easier path to the playoffs? Maybe, that’s debatable, B1G will get 3-4 teams every year. Big XII will probably never get more than 2.

But let’s pretend for a second that the path to the playoffs is easier in the Big XII. Playing in that conference, with vastly diminished recruiting resources, will not prepare us to win in the playoffs. Winning and competing in the B1G and SEC will.

When we talk about winning the off-season, this is exhibit A. Whenever I see two fans arguing about which program has more money, I immediately walk away.

Well, let me know when all of that starts happening and you might have a point. Until then...14 years and counting

Are you serious? All of it is happening right in front of you as we speak? 1 team made it from the Big XII, the conference champion and they went one and done. Valiant effort but we all know ASU wasn’t winning NC even if they pulled it out against Texas. B1G got 4 teams in and have 2 in the final 4.

Everything I said is happening right now.

I was referring to you trying to make the point that we're going to be so much more competitive in the playoffs because we're in the B1G. Got to make it first. Much like all that extra money, it doesn't do us a whole lot of good when we haven't even sniffed being close to making the playoffs, let alone try to somehow hang our hat on how much more competitive it's all going to make us if we ever do.

It’s a flawed memory, the big 12 was dysfunctional, we were only in it 14-15 years. It’s the Big 8 people miss. And OU and Mizzou are gone. Going back wouldn’t be the same, the Big 12 as we all know is a shell of its self from when we left. We can’t go back to where you half of the road games could be a one day trip. If we didn’t suck so bad in the Big Ten I’m certain we would like it more. But it’s been painful to look at Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois etc and see that they suck as well but we can’t beat them very often.

Ok, but I everything I said is happening. I never said we 100% will make the playoffs, I said if. (But I think our chances are much better to make it in the B1G and I think we’ll be better prepared to win in the playoffs if we’re able to win 10-12 games in the B1G)

In the end the numbers are irrefutable…

1. Big XII has 16 teams and 1 team made the playoffs. That’s a 6% chance of making the playoffs.

2. BIG has 18 teams and 4 made the playoffs. That’s a 22% chance. 22% is a lot better than 6% 🙂

3. B1G has 2 teams in the final four.

4. Big XII has 0 teams in the final four.

5. B1G pays out 61 million a year per school.

6. Big XII pays out 31 million to original members and 19 million to newcomers. (we would’ve gotten the new comer shaft if we ran back to the trailer park)

7. The last Big XII team to win a NC was Texas, 20 years ago. And Texas is now in the SEC.

Texas let off the gas otherwise ASU wouldn’t have been able to rally. BYU looked solid I can’t believe they didn’t even make big 12 championship game but they could have maybe gotten one win in the playoffs. Those teams like ASU and Boise at that have 1 single star player might win their weak conferences but it takes way more than that one player come playoff time.

I miss the Big 8 as well. Big 12 was a bunch of cowards who were tired of being NU's whipping boy. So they cozied up to the evil empire. Then Texass left them for more money to go to the $EC. Left the old Big 12 at the altar to fend for themselves. Fvck all of them. Karma. She's a bitch.

Honestly, who knows on any of this stuff? We naturally like to believe reports that’s make us look relevant. I linked a few different Google searches below and some don’t even list Nebraska in the top 20, so I imagine we would argue till we Red in the face that those articles are fake news or that valuable is different than profitable is different than richest program.

As you and others have mentioned in earlier posts, let’s just get half assed respectable on the field, then we don’t need to worry about how much money the program brings in. It’ll all take care of itself.
