This is one of his takes on the depth chart:

">> Tre Bryant is the No. 1 kick returner. True freshman. It was a disaster last season when then-true freshman Jordan Stevenson — pot belly and all — became the No. 1 kick returner over the, uh, mild concerns of special teams coordinator Bruce Read, but Bryant seems to have his head on much more tightly than Stevenson did."

So who's call was it to have Stevenson return kicks if Read didn't want it?

Sam is in no position to call out someone else's pot belly considering his own.
Haha, while true Sam isn't a D1 football player either. If you are writing an article and want to point out why one freshman returner is a better situation than the last one, I'd rather he mentions the clearly visible pot belly than the unproven allegation of sticky fingers!

He was basically ran out of town for stealing from his teammates. (allegedly). Stevenson was bad news and a disaster from the beginning.

We should start a gofundme account to support him in his troubled times

The offensive coaching staff along with MR. Stevenson is a talented guy and they wanted to try to keep him. They figured at that point that they had nothing to lose with him. Obviously in hindsight that didn't work out.

Why? Sam is not playing D 1 football, he is a writer. The expectations of each are different. Would it be ok for others to comment negatively on Sam's writing only if they were a superior writer. He is a writer, he writes about what he sees.

Maybe it worked out perfectly, they found out very quickly he wasn't a fit and got rid of him. Better to remove the cancer ASAP rather than let it spread.

Imagine if Ozigbo left the team because of Stevenson. Disaster squared.

I remember Ozigbo tweeting a 'WTF' type tweet after Stevenson signed and then the coaches talked to him and he tweeted something about working for it. Imagine what could have happened if that conversation didn't go well.

Can't point out that JS showed up to camp looking more like a DT than an RB? So are they also not allowed to say anything if players look bigger/better/leaner?

ALL BODIES ARE BEAUTIFUL, YOU GUYS

I wonder if bringing in JS may have helped Ozigbo? After his 'WTF' tweet, I believe he tweeting something like, "I understand, time to go to work." (I'm paraphrasing).

What I'm trying to say is that I believe bring in Stevenson lit more of a fire under Ozigbo's butt and made him better because of it.

Stevenson is a 18-year old, it's unprofessional for Sam to say Jordan has a "pot belly". There's other ways for him to get the point across.

OK, he was out of shape, he wan't physically ready to play, he needed to improve his conditioning - are some of those better? Seems like Sam is pointing out the obvious or rather what became obvious. We don't seem to have a problem pointing out when someone has "hands of stone" or "runs like they are in mud" or "hits like a # 2 pencil" but we better not say anyone has a pot belly. Better hope no one reads this board - oh yea, we are not professionals so we can say anything.

Much better, that's how a professional gets a point across. About an 18-year old kid.

I remember the follow up tweet being something similar as well. Luckily, it shows what kind of kid Oz is when faced with a little adversity.

I suppose the situation of taking on Stevenson was going to work out in some way, shape or form in the end. Either Ozigbo bows his neck and goes to work or he cowers at competition and takes his ball and goes home. Either way he shows his true character early. Lucky for us, he isn't a coward when it comes to competition.

Ozigbo has been bright and competitive from the start. He agreed with the potential for him here when the coaches laid it on. He was, and remains well spoken; and it appears is still working very hard. Reminds me in some aspects of Ameer; almost sneaky talented, not overly hyped, but rising to the top.GBR

I get you are right; and Sam and others are usually very deferential to this. And the very words Truhusker says; were used early, about this service eligible, legal man. .....
The pot belly comment is funny taken another way, and quickly summarize a group of " attributes " ; and these comments are usually seen about someone who is taking shots themselves.
