So far, have been impressed with his recruiting ability. Seems like a far better recruiter than Scott Frost, Mike Riley, or Bo Pelini.

Recruiting is mostly effort and enthusiasm. A little personality helps too. Rhule has been a homerun in all these areas. He has been better than I expected. I think at this point we all have a pretty good bs meter. He still has to pass the coaching test though. Jury is still out on that one.

I think Rhule wants young assistants who can relate with young athletes. You will most likely see many of these young assistants move on for better jobs and pay as Nebraska transitions back to a top tier program. I think Rhule will always be able to pull in top up and coming young coaches, he just has that appeal.

Bottom line recruiting will get better and better with each passing year. Nebraska is about to become relevant in college football quickly, this I have little doubt, to the chagrin of many Nebraska haters.

Of course it's pretty easy to be a better recruiter than a coach who is too hung over to show up or a coach who openly admits that he doesn't like to recruit.

The product is an easy sell, that is the key. Now it seems we have a coach that realizes that and is taking advantage of the doors that open because of the N.

I actually think a ton of people will be pumped to have us back. I meet a lot people from around the country who say they miss Nebraska being good. It was fun to hate us back in the day but I think everyone knows it's not the same without us.

Personally, I’d love to get back to the days where we pulled 10+ four stars every single class. That was a long time ago but we need to get there if we want to make the playoff

Getting 8-10 4 or 5 stars should be the standard. I think rhule could hit that mark for class of 2024. Even if he falls a bit short of hs 4 stars, he’ll be able to fill the gap via the portal.

I believe this will happen with even some surprising low stars that turn out to play like actual five stars.

Rhule’s energy reminds me a lot of Pete carrol when he first got to USC. Recruiting with excitement and lots of energy.

If you want a top 10 team. You need to have avout half of your roster consisting of 4 and 5 stars. So the standard needs to be 10 4 and 5 stars a year

True.. but right now I just want to see Nebraska win this sh!tty division. We don’t need 10 4/5 stars to do that..

So far it seems like it but we need to at least get through this 2024 recruiting cycle as well as see how the recruits actually turn out (ie., good judge of potential). I'm hoping though he is also a much better coach of college football than was Callahan.

Recruiting is about:

1. Organizing
2. Identifying
2. Prioritizing
3. Energizing
4. Closing

So far it certainly looks like Rhule/Co are the best at all 5 of these this since Billy C…

Thus far, this is a ridiculous comparison. Matt Rhule certainly brings many of the things to the table that made Bill Callahan so successful on the recruiting trail but whether the results reflect that is still to be determined. Matt Rhule has had 1 transition class that was ranked nationally in the low 30's - a class that has very few immediate impact players. Now, if Rhule can get verbals from some of these prospects he's bringing in next month - then that will start to move the needle nationally

Mike Riley has good interpersonal skills. However, his players were better suited for a conference that runs primarily WCO, like the PAC 12.
Riley didnt have the work ethic. Neither did Scott Frost. Bo hated recruiting but was actually pretty good at it all things considered. None of them were as organized as Rhule.

The immediate impact players came from the portal. It's 2023, that's what most teams do nowadays. It's not the 80s.

Bo probably would have done better at recruiting if he kept his thoughts about it to himself.

It's impossible to hate Mike Riley. You just look on with disappointment in your eyes
He was just shitting himself that we hired him the enitre time he was here. Granted he was the third option after Bielima and Chryst both said no.

Honestly I don't care about rehashing the old coaches like Callahan, Pelini, Riley or Frost at this point. Didn't really like any of them but it's all in the past now and nothing we can do about that history. Pelini might have been OK as a pure coach, but that mouthy personality and contempt for media/fans was a non-starter.
