Why? Different time, different circumstances, different conference. I don't see much relevance in the Callahan era to today's situation.recognizing Callahan's recruiting success is very important today.

OK if you go by recruiting services, but Osborne and Devaney proved earlier that it was possible to win national championships at Nebraska which Callahan, despite his recruiting skills, couldn't do.Proves that it is possible to recruit at an elite at Neb.

Honestly I'd say Osborne in reality had better recruiting skills than Callahan because he was able to identify under rated recruits and win games with them. Osborne's teams always ranked higher at the end of the season than his recruiting classes were ranked which to me meant he was best at identifying under rated talent.

I'm not claiming he was terrific. He was better than Mike Riley and Scott Frost, which isn't saying much. However, he did have a couple of bright moments, one of them, beating Michigan in the Alamo bowl.I sure couldn't agree more. Clownahan was a real-deal losing machine for us but many here still claim he was terrific. Oh well....
I think he could have been a lot better if he didn't try to run the program like a junior NFL team. He rightly emphasized recruiting, but he was too loyal to his underperforming friends. He needed to pare back his playbook. And like Pelini he needed to be thicker skinned.I'm not claiming he was terrific. He was better than Mike Riley and Scott Frost, which isn't saying much.
