Matt Rhule is the best recruiter we've had since Bill Callahan

So far, have been impressed with his recruiting ability. Seems like a far better recruiter than Scott Frost, Mike Riley, or Bo Pelini.
… They’ve offered more elite athletes than the others (since Callahan), but have yet to sign them. This latest Recruiting class and transfers were similar to years past. Fingers crossed for 2024!!!

Starts w/ Raiola, will be a good measuring stick, IMHO. Someone ask Matt Davison what our chances w/ Raiola are. He’d know as well as anyone…

I think our best recruiters from here on out will be our boosters. A&M showed you can buy the #1 class. Raiola will get a few mil to come here.

Honestly I don't care about rehashing the old coaches like Callahan, Pelini, Riley or Frost at this point. Didn't really like any of them but it's all in the past now and nothing we can do about that history. Pelini might have been OK as a pure coach, but that mouthy personality and contempt for media/fans was a non-starter.
recognizing Callahan's recruiting success is very important today.

Alvarez convinced Eichorst to hire Riley…That’s why I call Barry Alvarez Benedict Arnold..
Anyone with half a brain would have known not to take advice from one of our main rivals about who we should hire as our head coach. The real Benedict Arnold in that case was none other than Eichorst.

How the heck do we know that yet? He did grab about 40 guys total which I loved.

Over signing and fazing out non contributers is absolutely essential if you wanna be a top 10 program.

But we took a lot of diamond in the rough type guys. Who only had legitimate offers from G-5 schools (Transition class I know)

Im fine with that if they keep finding ways to upgrade and recruit over busts.

We'll find out soon enough how good of recruiters this staff is for the 2024 class and the results on the field for the 2023-2025 seasons.

I have them at #34.

What’d you have him @ before Rhule came in? As an analyst you must realize there’s beauty in being a first year coach. You can go old school and recruit off of senior films. You can find a lot of guys just finding their way into their own that way. It’s not always the best way to go but if you can’t land the best why take a shot on some 4 star that’s fizzling out that the bigger schools cooled off at the end. 🤷‍♂️

The product is an easy sell, that is the key. Now it seems we have a coach that realizes that and is taking advantage of the doors that open because of the N.
Followed up by the new facilities to add to the sell.

The immediate impact players came from the portal. It's 2023, that's what most teams do nowadays. It's not the 80s.

This is spot on. Never ceases to amaze me that so many people on here are still basing everything on recruiting high school players only. They all just living in the past? Overall rating (recruits + transfers) is much more accurate and really all that matters in today's college football landscape.

Every coach has been our best recruiter since Bill Callahan. I´ll believe it when I see his guys deliver on the field.
100 % True. According to Rivals, Rhule had the 2nd lowest rated class of the last 8 years. Yeah this was his first year and bla bla bla...He recruited ok in year 1. Didn't light the world on fire like all of the kool aid drinkers think. But give the man time before he is crowned the greatest recruiter in the last 20 years. Next year will be huge. Hopefully it shows up on the field, otherwise, the rankings really don't mean jack shit.

I'm just glad that Rhule and his staff are willing and confident enough to go after the elite prospects. Too often, Nebraska football coaches have given up on the A+ prospects before the recruiting even began. "why would they come here when they could go to 'x'?" Always drove me absolutely crazy because how do you know they'll never come to Nebraska if you don't put in any of the work to try to get them here?

The other thing we'll have to keep an eye on is how many of his recruits from 2024 onward stick around 3+ years? The previous staff landed some good prospects their first year here but then had an absolutely horrible player retention rate their entire tenure. Land a good prospect, he's here for 6 months then gone. I understand it's more difficult than ever to keep guys around but that's where the portal should come in. Ideally, you try to keep consistent class sizes and then if a guy transfers out or goes pro, you supplement their spot with a portal entrant. But you're never going to win anything if you're always 'young' across the board because your upperclassmen keep transferring out before they even become one.

I think Rhule wants young assistants who can relate with young athletes. You will most likely see many of these young assistants move on for better jobs and pay as Nebraska transitions back to a top tier program. I think Rhule will always be able to pull in top up and coming young coaches, he just has that appeal.

Bottom line recruiting will get better and better with each passing year. Nebraska is about to become relevant in college football quickly, this I have little doubt, to the chagrin of many Nebraska haters.
Adding this to the freezing cold takes in 5 years

The true test if matt rhule is making bill callahan-like progress on the recruiting trail is whether the program can land (and retain) guys like many of those visiting at the end of March, not Roger Gladney or Ismael Smith Flores or Kwinten Ives or etc.

Any comparison with bill callahan's recruiting success before the conclusion of 2023 national signing day is asinine and premature
