Coach Williams is very high on this guy. Seemed to have come out of nowhere to play quite a bit at the end of last season. Not a burner, ran decent mid-distance times in in HS track (800-3200, 2 flat in the 800 as a frosh). He's a big guy who is likely supremely conditioned. It's nice to have a guy who can go hard first snap to last.

Can he stretch the field? Seems like that's where the new staff wants to grow.
He's not a burner, but I am sure he has good speed. But he's 6-4, can play all of the positions. More of a Mr. Reliable.
Brandon Reilly is a stretch the field guy.

Agreed. We really need Reilly to stay healthy this year, but Lane Hovey has had some flashes. He is a nice big body that I hope we can utilize.

Look back at a guy like Todd Peterson. Solid athlete (multisport in HS), smart, hard worker. Those kind of guys pay the bills, so to speak. Players like him and Hovey are still around when some of the high flyers don't pan out.

Great comparison

Didn't the previous staff compare Hovey to Ed McCaffrey? I think Todd Peterson level would certainly help this team. Westercamp can be his Nate Swift.

Those guys were also sneaky smart to get open. If things broke down; they seemed to pop up wide open in a seam or behind it all. I am betting he is sneaky fast against a tiring defender. Reilly was amazing two years ago in the spring game; so fast he could be crossing and cut up towards the qb and create new separation ; on catching the ball he was tough as he sprinted upfield towards the sideline and going outside the corner.

Excellent job picking out white NFL receivers as a comparison to white Nebraska receivers. It used to be any white receiver was compared to Wes Welker.
