Lamar Jackson

The nonexclusive franchise tag is hurting him

The ravens get a chance to match any offer or get 2 1st round draft picks from the offering team

1. If a another team offers Lamar a big contract but less than Watson - Lamar is going to reject - The ravens still own his rights and will leak the offer undermining that team’s current QB and front office

No one wants to go through prolonged negotiations only to have to submit these negotiations to a rival company where they could simply match them

(Never agree to right of first refusal language in your contract - it severely discourages other companies from pursuing you in good faith)

2. NFL teams hold on to first round draft picks like it is theirs father’s vintage penthouse collection
The Ravens aren’t going to match any reasonable offer. Their marriage to Jackson is over. The narratives that this has been about collusion or race are absurd. Lamar made his own bed now he has to sleep in it. IF I’m an NFL GM there’s no way in hell I want my job security tied to Lamar. HIS business decisions screwed himself.

You assume that record was all his doing. The dumb ass sat out of the playoff game even though he was healthy. What GM in their right mind would give him the kind of contract he’s demanding. F him.
Who said he was healthy? If one of your skillsets is being able to move around the pocket and take off running and you feel your knee isn't ready, why would you pull an RG3 and risk injuring further and potentially ruining your career

Don’t you claim to have lots of medical training?

Grade 2/3 PCL sprain = healthy?

Maybe try to educate yourself before defaulting to bootlicker status? Just a thought, Dr. Sheep.

Oh, and there’s also that pesky little fact the ravens rank 32/32 in spending on the offensive side of the ball during Lamar’s career.

That record was absolutely all him.

The bottom line is regardless of anything else if he had a good agent representing him I believe he would have a long-term contract. No player wants to pay an agent a cut of their money, yet almost all do.

He’s a pussy. He was healed and cleared for the playoffs. Screw him. He needs to take his 40 million and thank the Ravens for taking him in the draft as a QB. I’m tired of prima donna athletes whining over their contracts. The Raven’s offer from the start was more than fair and I don’t like the Ravens.

So the organization confirmed this as well? I’m sure he wasn’t 100% by any means at that point but what player is? His handling of his career and contract in house hasn’t been a great decision.

An agent would have made this a much smoother situation. I hope the 3%, think that’s the max of agents share, he is saving is worth it. I’m sure some teams aren’t interested in paying a huge contract in such a situation.

He will end up somewhere but the team will spend a bunch of money and end up with little post season success.

QB’s I’d take over him currently
Mahomes
Burrow
Allen
Lawrence
Herbert
Hurts

I stated earlier I would rather have Cousins as well. Gimme Jimmy G, Carr, etc. Lamar is vastly over rated and much of his success was due to his organization. JMHO He’s a dumbsh$t

Allen, Lawrence, Herbert have accomplished zero of what Lamar has on the field

Lamar played 12 games last year. He only started sitting for money later in the season? Yea okay makes sense

The organization was negotiating. They were feeding the media reports and lemmings like you and @dinglefritz were slurping it straight with no chaser.

Zero GMs have said they wont pursue Lamar - it’s been owners only. The same owners who settled a collusion lawsuit just 4 years ago.

Why? They don’t want to set the precedent that forces them to tie up 9 figures in escrow.

Every other league has guaranteed contracts. The NFL, much like the NCAA with NIL, will do all it can to fight against their labor force in order to continue lining the pockets of the few.

Billionaire dick must taste great, eh, boys? Keep on chugging!

I would bet most GM's, by a huge margin, would take Lamar 4th overall out of the QB's you listed in your first sentence...and Allen has 10X the success under his belt than Lamar, and Lawrence has as many playoff wins as Lamar....and something interesting I am noticing when people talk about Lamar, they keep reminding us he won an MVP, why is that? Because we easily forgot it after he flamed out in the playoffs in the same year.

Having said al that, you had a great point about money spent on his side of the ball, the Ravens have done him zero favors, and I mean zero. Nobody can dispute that.

Lastly, many people more connected than us believe Lamar sat out due to his contract first, nagging injury second, and when he refused to travel with the team last year he added fuel to that fire he didn't need to do.

BUT....in spite of all that, if I am an NFL team in need of a QB, I'm making a run at Lamar because he is available and arguably the best QB "free agent" that has ever hit the market...Brady and Rogers are better of course, but they were at AARP age by the time they did it.

josh allen has won 3 wild card games

lamar has earned his team 2 first round byes

those are the exact same thing in my opinion.

Allen has won 1 divisional round game, Lamar has won zero. this is a fair point.

also - let's not forget the Ravens were graded 32/32 for training/medical in a league-wide survey. so, in addition to never spending a dime on offense, they were by far the most injured team - and not just Lamar.

Never thought of your first two sentences like that.....that is an interesting point.

Agree lock stock and barrell with the rest.

Bill Simmons has long said first round byes should count as playoff wins.

I agree with him.

it's also being rumored the Ravens have a deal to acquire DeAndre Hopkins & pick 34 in exchange for their 1st rounder, pick 22

He got the bag, now he will have to earn it. It’s a ton of cash to give to a solid RB that throws a decent ball.

Happy for this signing with that price tag as a Steelers fan.
Ummm

Do you think your paycheck is for work you've already done or work you’re yet to do?

He’s already earned it, bub.

@dinglefritz perhaps reflecting on your hilariously incorrect opinions in this thread would be time better spent than laughing at mine

This thread is a pretty good gauge on who knows what & who doesn’t know shit

Guess which side you’re on
I’m just not a Lamar Jackson boot licker like you. Guaranteeing a guy 200 million with his injury history is crazy. We’ll see how it works out for the Ravens.

You’re right. You’re a guy who said he’s a “fool” who “overplayed his hand”.

To the tune of now being the highest paid player in the league.

Your posts on page 1 of this thread are indefensible & hilarious. Like, how can anybody take you seriously after that?

He didn’t get his fully guaranteed contract. Yeah he got paid but he had to compromise.

I know changing your mind/evolving is a foreign concept to you, so I’m not shocked you’re holding it against a 26 year old who just made $185M representing himself.

ravens won’t be able to put quality players around him. he’s basically a one-man show destined to be irrelevant and hurt. Anyone think these guys who start racking up injuries ever return to form?

Big money given to Watson, Jones, and Jackson is pure foolishness. Hurts and Mahomes are deserving.

Pro sports spend the future for the past, sure bub. When his teams don’t make the playoffs and the fans get upset and pissed off about it, I’ll be sure to take reflection of your wisdom and share with those Ravens fans I know and tell them this will be taken into account on his next contract, don’t worry about the present team. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I thought I read before how Harbaugh had a plan in place to take mobile qbs often in the draft and continually replace the starter once their rookie contract expired.

Seemed like a recipe to win in contrast to the norm for QB strategy these days. I wonder what changed?

It certainly wasn't Jackson developing into an elite passer all of a sudden...
