Khalil Davis

Been saying this for the past year...K. Davis was our best player on defense, and his DL mates were right behind him. Like the guy in the Twitter responses said, some clowns in Husker Nation were saying it would be addition by subtraction on the DL next season. That is not likely...

D line will take a step back but their is a bunch of talent to build with. LBs will be light years better. Secondary will improve with more talent and depth as well.

our Dline was a strength. I had it out with a few on here about that. Our secondary and Dline should continue improve with the LBs slowly catching up.

Some guys think our dline sucked. That's how bad our linebackers were.

agreed, our Dline wasn’t the issue. They held their ground and got pressure...it was our LBs that weren’t any good or very good. Give us some legit LBs back there this past season and we see a completely different defense...GBR

Plus some healthy safeties for pass defense packages for three or four wide sets.

I think a lot of people that took issue with our Dline were people who did not/ do not understand the responsibilities of the DL in the 3-4.... our LBers where seriously that bad that we had d linemen in a 3-4 playing the role of d-linemen in a 4-3... you seen our line get more aggressive and try to rush the passer instead of staying in their gaps to eat blocks to free up the LBers... once you have that the 3-4 turns very ineffective

Our Dline didn't do a good job at eating blocks. Our linebackers were worse, but our Dline absolutely was a problem last year.

In games against like or lesser talent, the D-Line was fair to good, but against tOSU, Minnesota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue, they were handled for the most part.

The effort in just about all games was there, hopefully the staff can make inroads the next few years with a defense that is more athletic, opportunistic, and wreaks a bit more havoc.

Hopefully the Davis boys will have some long term success at the next level.

yes our Dline was a problem, in the manor like I expressed, they were trying to get some pressure on the QB which made them lose gap control/ not eat up blocks, so the line not only didn’t have to double team like they should have to do to a 3-4 they were able to use our DL’s aggression to free up two more of their OL to block LBers...as they’ll just use the big bodies momentum to over run the pocket and step up into it...

I think that's a good way to sum it up. Any offense with a pulse and our defensive line was gashed, but they did hold up well to lower competition.

The OHio State running backs had a hard time catching up to their offensive line as they drive our DL back. Their OL got three yards at least before the backs got there.

You’re bringing up the OSU game, who didn’t OSU make look silly? Maybe Clemson that played LSU close in the National Title game. OSU even beat down Wisconsin twice. And I disagree, our Dline did okay against them. Our LBs looked like a joke.

they held up fairly well against Wisconsin and Iowa both. Again our LBs didn’t but our Dline usually did solid. Hell Khalil Davis is showing his skills now against some elite talent. He didn’t suddenly get solid to good.

Getting D Williams back will be huge. Him and Dismuke will lay the wood in some fools.

I don't think you're in the right forum. I hope our guys aren't laying wood IN our opponent's Laughing Laughing Could make for an interesting pornhub video, if you're into that sort of thing...SmokinSmokin

Dismuke wiffed A LOT .......just want sure tacklers in the back line. The game is past “laying the wood”- you do that your ejected. See last nights game with Clemson LB

Let’s not get carried away, because one talent scout is raving about him. Doesn’t make him right. How often do these guys get it wrong? It the Eagles too. So let’s not anoint him the best DL in the country just yet. Why do Nebraska fans always take the ball and try to advance it further up the field.

it’s kind of ironic that you’re asking that question... seeming as how In absolutely none of my posts I anointed any of our DL the best in the world... I think the just of my points and the point of the op was that our DL was not as bad as what people thought and I tried outlining why people may have thought that way... Now it does say something to his credit that he was one of the better ones out there on day one, but you are correct right now that means very little... it just helps him in the possibility of getting drafted... he won’t be the first DL off the board he won’t be a day one pick or day 2 pick but a good performance here may get him a shot at day 3 and roster spot for training camp and a chance to prove himself... I think you’re the one that took the ball and ran with it there

I wouldn't consider the Shrine bowl elite talent. Khalil Davis is a decent player and I don't think the coaching or schemes he had while playing here helped him out much.

Nope, hed been better off playing and learning on your iowa team

Not suprised at all. Funny i just had discussions a few weeks ago with a guy saying he or the Davis twins werent that good at all. One even said they were "they were the slowest 3-4 DEs in the country".

That said both those guys played outta position because of need. Carlos was beefed up a bit much last year to play NG when they had noone. Both those guys have NFL talent as 4-3 DGs. I also think Daniels has a chance. But Kahlil especially was pretty damn good this year.

This. The Davis twins were recruited as DTs in a 4-3, not DEs in a 3-4. And it's very possible that whatever level Carlos could have produced at as a 3-4 DE was hampered by the year of having to take reps at NT. Carlos was the twin that produced early (42 tackles as a sophomore vs. 15 for Khalil in 2017, 24 vs. 5 in 2016).
