Kentucky Derby

Been wagering on ponies, the Triple Crown, Breeders Cup, etc. for well over 30 years.

Can't ever recall a mare with this much success. In breeding it almost always comes down to Sire and Damsire. Obviously they have a much bigger impact on 1,000 times the chances and legacy. (And the greats deserve their notoriety).

However, I can't ever recall a single mare offering such greatness when they are obviously only given a single chance each and every year. It is hard to have a mare that spits out horses that can win a race much less stakes races, much less get to the Kentucky Derby as 3YOs.

Hopefully they talk about it today. It is truly amazing.

Au contraire, mon frère. In breeding, it's all about the bottom side of the pedigree. Don't want to get into a whole internet argument with you, but trust me on this.

That said, our boy Baeza looked like he had a bit of a rough trip...again. Broke really wide but recovered enough to show. Still feeling good about my "investment" (heavy on the quotation marks).

My man is gonna be brought out of the ashes like a Phoenix for this thread I think.

Either way, there are so many slow horses this year, it’s gotta be Journalism or Sovereignty IMO….maybe Baeza if he gets in.
Once again, for the 6th straight year, neither the favorite (Journalism) or the 2nd favorite (Sandman) won the Derby.

As a side note: In the last 10 years in the Preakness, the ONLY 2 Kentucky Derby winners to win the Preakness were Triple Crown winners Justify and American Pharoah.

In looking at the Results Chart for the Kentucky Derby, of the 19 horses, only 1 horse (Citizen Bull) ran the race without trouble. As I constantly say, chaos is the name of the game for virtually all horses in that race.
