Jim McElwain goes ballistic on a player

I think most of us look at this situation through the lens of how we would have liked to be coached or what type of coaching we respond to. At some point all of us here have played organized athletics and for most of us that ended after high school. I personally would not respond well to that type of coaching but others would be just fine.

As a fanbase, we are unable to objectively evaluate the appropriateness of coaching tirades. The Bo memories are still too fresh.

I have now heard it talked about on 2 different programs, neither commended McEldouche for his behavior. It just brings the wrong kind of national attention, period. Sweet, sign me up for that again.

Funny because I heard Michael W. Smith on His and Hers this morning say it was more than okay with him. He made the point that the kid thought it was okay to put himself before the team and University. By performing the act in public you open yourself up to being chastised in public.

You are seriously defending a guy going full douche and bringing negative attention to your program, because Michael W. Smith was OK with it? Gotcha. I will agree with the "By performing the act in public you open yourself up to being chastised in public", because plenty of people think McEldouche over reacted and he is being called out for it. I am sure there were Blo supporters who felt the same way Michael W. Smith did, and they ended up supporting a loser who is a Penguin now.

No pretty sure I have been singing the same tune the whole time long before any mention of Michael W. Smith. You were the one that brought up you heard one way so I was also telling you there were people out there saying the other too. Wow, talk about bringing negative attention. Come on man, literally right before your first post I agreed with Mwulf that it boils down to whether you would respond better to calm or fire.

Oh and just an added noted the player tweeted out that he loves "Coach Mac. Hes going to make me a better person. Got nothing, but respect" sounds like the kid responded well to me. This was on cfb live after everyone on the show agreed with Mcelwains tirade.

After what we went through with Bo, I find it almost impossible to believe so many would stick up for that douchery, but to each their own. I think Bo had a lot of players stick up for him to when he pulled that crap, even said similar stuff, etc. Looks like the wrong kind of attention to me, but if so many here are OK with it who am I to tell them they deserve better? I deserve better, my son would deserve better, but perhaps many people don't think they do and that's that I guess.

I know the kids dad didn't seem to be as Ok with the tirade directed at his son after he heard the audio to go with BTW. But hey, what does HE know? Fred Taylor, seriously, who is THAT guy?

I heard Fred Taylors response, too. And that is perfectly okay for him to not like it if he feels he went to far. It seemed he was most upset that Mcelwain questioned his manhood rather than the actual yelling. But like you said to each his own. And as far as Bo, I never had a problem with him and hope he does well at YSU, but I am sure since I dont "hate the worst human being alive" like half the people on here, I will be called every name in the book even though "God himself" gave Bo a recommendation to Tressel, but I digress I am also sure that Mcelwain knows which players respond to that and who doesnt. He probably knew he could be open and honest with Taylor.

Sideline tirades directed at players like that are never OK anymore. I saw it to many times with Bo and I always thought the same thing..."Do you have no self control and don't you realize what an asshole you look like". What I didn't know at the time I was asking myself those questions was Bo's responses to those questions were "1-No, and 2-Yes, but I'm trying to get fired". McElwain will fail at Florida IMO. Kind of rooting for it now to be honest :)
