home run hires hit home runs
home run hires AT THE TIME, genius. Go back to the time frame when Frost and Hoiberg were both hired and see what the National media, local media and what everyone thought. The entire sports world considered Frost and Hoiberg as some of top coaches available at the time. Yes sir, both were considered home run hires at the time and no one expected both coaches struggle like they have.
So back to the main point, should Moos be fired? NO....
6 or more games. Anything less is bullshit considering we have supposedly out recruited everyone on our schedule for several years now, except for OU and OSU. The time for excuses is over. Win this season or get the hell out.In your eyes how many games does Frost need to win to be retained? Im thinking at least 6. But I know some fans think if wins 4 or 5 he should be retained. Personally, I only see 3 or 4 wins next year. But Ive lost so much hope that I doubt SF is fired.

I can't believe we're even arguing over any of this at this point.
Well, obviously, Moos would be fired if a move was to be made on Frost. You'd agree with that. That's where we're all at. Where are you at?
Tim Miles | Fred Hoiberg | Hoiberg is going to be regarded as one of if not the best hires of the 2019 coaching cycle. A Midwest guy to his core, Hoiberg is a natural fit for the school and figures to have all the financial backing and supportive resources he'll need in order to get this long-dormant men's hoops program into the thick of the Big Ten pecking order |
1. Scott Frost, Nebraska
Previous Job: UCF Head Coach
Career Record: 19-7 (2016-17 UCF Head Coach)
In terms of fit and need as it relates to the 2017-18 college football coaching carousel, it doesn’t get much more perfect than Frost at Nebraska. The Nebraska native and former Cornhusker quarterback returns to his home state after a successful two-year stint at UCF. After a winless 2015 season, the Knights improved to 6-7 in Frost’s first year. And Frost capped his UCF tenure with a perfect 13-0 season, a Peach Bowl victory over Auburn and a No. 6 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. Prior to his two-year stint in Orlando, Frost worked as Oregon’s offensive coordinator from 2013-15, calling the plays for one of college football’s top offenses. And he also worked with the Ducks from 2009-12 as a wide receivers coach and had a stint at Northern Iowa (2007-08). Considering Frost’s ties to the program as a former player, he knows what it takes to succeed in Lincoln. Nebraska needed to make a big move in order to become a Big Ten power and close the gap on Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin. Frost’s arrival will certainly do that in his return to Lincoln.

Well, I think this OU debacle is a real sign that there is some panic in North stadium. Hey Frost... where is your swagger now?
But now is not the time to fire anybody. Another losing season this Fall and then let’s talk about rolling some heads.
I don't think Moos will pull the trigger after year 4 - even if it's a losing season.6 minimum or he won't make it to Year 5. Good lord. We need to stop making excuses. He's got the talent to do better.

Now the real question. Assume Bolt continues his success with the baseball team and Hoiberg turns the corner with the basketball team and has them winning, competing and they make an NCAA Tourn appearance (or gets close). Does Moos get canned if Frost is the only Head Coach that struggles after next season (assuming he does indeed struggle again)? 🤔🤔
He shouldn’t. And I don’t think he would. Now the real question. 6 wins and SF should be fired. The fact we're debating whether we should have Oklahoma on the schedule or not to get to 6 wins tells you all you need to know about how big of a failure his tenure has been. This won’t sit well with most of you , but I can understand the rationale here. First: Frost needs wins, realistically the Oklahoma game would result in a loss for the Huskers. Second , a home game results in significantly more revenue for the University. Third , an additional home game would give us another chance to bring in recruits to visit . Fourth , scheduling a weak team gives us solid chance at a win, which in turn helps us to achieve 6 wins (given the difficult schedule this will be difficult) and our first bowl in years.

And three years later? He is now number 4 on the coaches hot seat. And moving up. Better make Moos look good quick.
There is a reason he was forced to resign at Oregon (Chip was right after Moos got canned). Had a couple of good seasons. Nothing great. He resigned (fired) because he wouldn't adapt and had an ego problem ( the same reason Frost is in the position that he is in). He takes off and Oregon explodes. He goes to Washington St after he farms for a couple of years. The football team is crap, but they make some progress his last 2 years. He leaves and comes here. Washington St becomes decent after he takes off. People are puzzled as to why he took off. Arrives here. He makes a speech, talks confident , and people cream their pants. Makes the hip hires because the fans want it, and it backfires.
The guy should have never been hired in the first place. His track record is below average. He talks the tough talk and people buy into it. He should have been fired in 5 minutes after the crap he just pulled. The problem here is that Frost is just as much behind it as Moos is, if not more. Next year? I expect Frost to end it with one winning season out of 6 as a head coach. Yeah. Let's keep em both around for another couple of years after 2021. Especially Frost because he is an alum with an ego problem, who is trying to recapture the 90's because his mentor is Tom. Good business sense. Worked well for the last 20 years. GBR!
Financially, at this point, it does not make sense. Another year or two of this clown show? Even an idiot will tell you it's a no brainer.
So you want to keep Moos, then it means you want to keep Frost, then it means you want to keep losing and embarrassing the school etc. You’re an idiot.. you related to Eichorst or a relative of jlb?
So you want to keep Moos, then it means you want to keep Frost, then it means you want to keep losing and embarrassing the school etc.
You should look in the mirror some day.
I don't think it's time for him to go. But that's what can happen when you hire outsiders. If they fail to truly get to know the culture and fan base, mistakes are made. The odd thing is that this is really a rookie mistake and Moos is no rookie.Thoughts?
you're not making any sense.. you don't go backwards in time to get a new athletic director..I’ll reverse it for..
So you want Eichorst back ? then if you do can he ask Alvarez again who to hire for a head coach, then he’ll be told another nice guy who like’s to play powder puff football again ..
Hip Hip Hurray !
I’ll stick with Moos for the time being is better than the last alternative...
you're not making any sense.. you don't go backwards in time to get a new athletic director..
So you want him thrown under the bus for hiring two coaches a majority of the fans were wanting? When he was hired...I loved the old-time hard as nails...whiskey drinking...no apologies b=nature of Bill Moos..
Fast forward to today....has he be the architect of everything that has ruined Husker athletics (with a couple exceptions)? Watching almost anything athletic from Nebraska currently is complete and utter torture. Thankfully Moos has kept his hands off Wrestling and Volleyball.
Thoughts?
I sort of hear you on the hoops team but also sort of disagree. The B1G is so deep and is built on a lot of “veteran” teams and consistent coaching staffs. Look at Duke and Kentucky this year. Only difference is they both have 5 five stars starting on both teams and neither is making the dance this year. Actually it looks like KY will but they’re nowhere near a normal KY team. 1 5 star guard and a center wont immediately bump us to the upper half of the league imo. We need a 2-3 years of good recruiting and teams playing together for multiple years to be good in this league. I hope you’re right but I don’t see it happening as quickly as you make it sound. Also, Hoiberg loves the Juco/transfer market which can work if you hit on the right guys but if you don’t, you can get buried real fast. It’s far from over my friend. Far from over.
Still, the point and questioned asked was “Should Bill Moos get fired” or “Is it time for Moos to go?” No it is not time for that to happen, yet. Like my points above, he made two big time hires (at the time that’s what they were, big time hires) and Bolt with the baseball team. Then he finally approves a much needed facilities upgrades and so on. He’s down everything he’s supposed to so far. Moos (or anyone else in the country for that matter) couldn’t for see Frost and Hoiberg struggling. Unfortunately it happens.
So, back to the question, should he be fired or let go? No...because it’s far from over. Hoiberg and the basketball team started to show some good progress towards the end of the season and now he has a 5 ⭐ and a Top 100 Center coming in next season, plus any other additions he brings in. Fred Hoiberg and the basketball team could turn that corner and pretty solid next season. Considering that and Bolt doing well with our baseball team. That potentially only leaves Frost and we will see next season if that hire was indeed, a failure or not. So again, it’s not time yet for Moos to get fired. Take it or leave it....GBR
Duh no sheit.Well, obviously, Moos would be fired if a move was to be made on Frost. You'd agree with that. That's where we're all at. Where are you at?
All Husker Fans aren't mad. Maybe disappointed up to this point cause many thought it would go sky high right away in winning.I don't think it's time for him to go. But that's what can happen when you hire outsiders. If they fail to truly get to know the culture and fan base, mistakes are made. The odd thing is that this is really a rookie mistake and Moos is no rookie.
As mad as Husker fans are now, can you image the fan reaction if they actually announced that they were replacing Oklahoma with a home game against Akron?
What a nice way to kick off their fundraising season. Moos and Frost are not exactly inspiring confidence right now.
I was just going by the hot seat rankings on NBC sports, coacheshotseat.com, Bleacher Report, and CBS.com. Doesn't mean he's going to get canned. However, the local media and fan perception is a little bit different than the national one. I think he will be on the "warm seat" entering his fourth year, and year 5 will be make or break for him, agreed, he’s definitely struggled his first 3 seasons here. No doubt about it and anyone with eyes could and can see that. But outside that, I don’t know what to tell you. The man isn’t on the Hot Seat just yet. Here’s what Mike Farrell had to say about it in his Fact or Fiction article...
1. Scott Frost is on the hot seat this season.

“Farrell’s take: FICTION. I took this question to the Red Sea Scrolls on HuskerOnline.com and the fans seem to agree with me — Frost is not on the hot seat in 2021, but if he has another bad year he will be in 2022. Frost is 12-20 in three years and 9-17 in conference, which doesn’t compare well to Mike Riley’s 19-19 (12-14) only three years at Nebraska but he will get a bit longer because of his status as a former player and legend. This season a bowl game is expected, but if he doesn’t get there he won’t be gone.”

The Nebraska head coach is 12-20 overall and 9-17 in three seasons of leading the Huskers.n.rivals.com
I know the feeling, I just can't blame Moos for our performance on the field or basketball court when by almost every account he made good hires. I would trust him to hire replacements if it comes to that.
We have 3 away games and 1 home game in that entire September month (our first 4 games). There isn’t another Power 5 team in the country that has 3 away games and 1 home game. Only the Huskers.
