And end the season 7-5... Would you consider this season a success?

Curious on the pulse of the fan base. Been a bumpy ride with lots of missed opportunities. Pre-season I would have said 8 was the bench mark, but wins over Wisconsin, Iowa, & Colorado would put me as a yes.

I never publicly predicted anything in the preseason, but fully prepared for another 5-win year, dared to get my hopes up a little when they slapped Colorado around, then feared it was another 0-for-November coming until the clock hit zeroes yesterday. So by my cynically low standard, I consider this season a success already 🤷🏻‍♂️

Everyone measures success differently.

If you picked Nebraska to win go 7-5 or worse, then you would consider it a successful season.

If you picked Nebraska go to 8-4 or better, you may consider the season a letdown.

If Nebraska finishes 7-5 with wins against Colorado and Iowa, that's definitely a successful season.

If Nebraska loses to Iowa and finishes 6-6, despite making a bowl game. I would be content but wouldn't call this year a successful season.

Why stop at 7... End the season with a bowl win and a three game winning streak. 8-5. I thought NU was an 8-9 win team. The 4 game skid was not in cards. In the history books, an 8 win season looks good.
Yup. I had us at 8 before the season. Becoming bowl eligible is a huge weight off our back. Now just finish with two wins and build off that into recruiting.

Yeah a bowl win would be nice, but I'm afraid it'll be pretty meaningless in this day and age. So much opting out by the best players and "you could tell they didn't want to be there" by the best teams. We'll have to get incredibly with whatever team we draw for it to mean much of anything

BULL DURHAM
Crash: “Are you out of your mind?”
Nuke: “I’m just talking about one time.”
Crash: “If you give in now, you might start losing. Huh? Never f— with a winning streak.”
Why it’s the best: Because EVERYONE knows you never, um, mess with a winning streak.

6 wins and a bowl game was my hopeful preseason guess, as we haven't achieved that in quite awhile. So I'm happy we're there.

If we finish 8-5 I'll be almost giddy.

It is a major missed opportunity because we have a very stout defensive line, and defensively(outside of the Indiana game--caused by 5 turnovers) we are a top 15 defense. Imagine having an offense as well that could ball control and manage field position and we might have had a top 10 defense. We have an elite qb, he plays much older than he is, we have been remarkably healthy, we obviously have two good backs, a good stable of wrs and a very friendly schedule. We could be 10-1 right now, should have 8 or 9 wins with the possibility of 10. The fact that the head coach had to fire his friend who has some of the worst analytics in the sports over his career just to get us to score more than 30 in a game means the season should be viewed as a disappointment. I don't really care, but I do feel for the kids...this could have been a special season if Rhule would have taken the job seriously.

The real downside is we lose our defense next year, hopefully not our coach and we have no guarantee of keeping DH, he may not even want to coach. This was the "spike" season, where you get 9-11 wins, next year with schedule will be the "dip"..unless we can buy some really high quality defensive lineman.

7-5 a success, yes it would be. Especially since it would be ending with 2 wins after a very difficult to take 4 game skid.

I thought 8-4 was going to be our final regular season record but if we beat Iowa next Friday (tall order) it would get us to 7 wins and then win a bowl game and that's 8 wins, I'll take it. I was off on the regular season total, but we do have a shot at 8 wins which would be very pleasing in my opinion.

7-5 with wins over Colorado, Wisconsin and Iowa is clearly progress on one front.

I also want the sense that we have a solid foundation for more success going forward. If they can beat Iowa, Dana is retained, we replace at least one other offense assistant, and net portal effect is positive, then we might be there.

I think you have to ask who is the OC for the bowl game?

I think we will beat Iowa.. 7-5 is progress.. 7-6, looks a little iffy.

Should’ve, could’ve, only if we would’ve…..that’s something that nearly all of the teams and fans are thinking at this point of the year.

I think DH will be back, he wants to coach. Recall he said he was bored when asked why he decided to come here. What you laid out is looking at the negative view, there are good young DL that will grow into the role next year. Even if the D isn’t as good next year it doesn’t have to be if the offense is cranking out 44 points a game!

Depends on the definition of a successful season. If we really had our shit together this is a 10-2 season but 7-5 would be a significant step in the right direction and around as good as I thought we'd do going-in.

We play like we did yesterday for the final two games, we are making progress. The season is far from a success.

Progress is good though
Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm just happy to see some necessary changes and progression.....instead of no changes and regression.

A little progress on offense in LA. But still trash. This past game was great. QB could read and the OL looked amazing.

We have real high quality D lineman. Keona Davis (STUD), Lenhardt, Van Poppel, Jamari Butler, Elijah Jeudy, James Williams. If you can get a stud transfer great, but we have high cieling guys on the roster. Lots of young wr talent too. LB, check. DBs NEEDED.

Mild progress. Beat Iowa and it’ll be the first winning season Nebraska has had since 2016. Which is….ridiculous.

It’s frustrating because I look at programs like Indiana and in Cignetti’s first year, they are likely going to the playoff.

Indiana wasn’t some recruiting juggernaut. They just hired an actual good head coach. The dude is 129-36 in his coaching career. He wins everywhere he goes. Literally why can’t NU hire guys like that?

Nebraska has this weird inability to hire good head coaches. Every single one of them since TO has flamed out with the exception of Pelini and even he never won a conference championship or beat Texas.

So, 7-5 would be progress and is what I predicted earlier this season, but considering how easy the schedule was, they should have at least gone 10-2.

That makes this season far from a success. But at least it’s an improvement over the last several years.

Also, Illinois should have been a win. The only team that pants’ us would be Indiana and they were a buzzsaw at that point in time. Also, Rutgers ends up being a decent win too.
Not after tOSU thumping them which I predicted they'd do. With our win and they way we won yesterday coupled with their beatdown at the hands of Ohio St, their game against us was nothing more than a fluke.

tOSU/Indy Stat line

Ohio St 316 yards Total O 201 passing and 115 rushing and they have a retooled OL because of all of their injuries and still destroyed Indiana at their house. 5.7 yards per play 55 total plays

Indiana 151 yards of Total O 68 yards passing and 83 yards rushing at 2.6 yards per play, 59 total plays

tOSU/DONU Stat line

Ohio St 285 Total O 221 passing and 64 rushing 11 1st downs and 47 total plays, TOP 24:53 6.1 yards per play
DONU 273 Total O 152 yards passing and 121 yards rushing also had 18 1st downs, total plays 66 and TOP 35:07 4.1 yards per play

Outlier, The Blackshirts humilited the Buckeye O on their own field holding them to season low's across the board in passing, rushing, scoring, total offense and even holding them to 1-10 in 3rd down conversions.

I thought 8 was possible until I watched the UNI game. Our D concerned me in that game and still does.
The secondary has been prone to giving up big plays regardless of the opposing QB’s skill level. It would not surprise me at all to see our defense geared up to stop the run at all costs—against THAT team in THAT weather—only to have their 4th string quarterback connect over the top for a surprise big play or two. In a low scoring game, that could be the difference maker.

UNI only had something like 40 or 45 second half yards only and held scoreless by the Blackshirts.

Man, you are confident af about this game! I can’t quite get there based on what I’ve seen, but I like it. Hope you’re right.

The shackles weighing this team down of winning a game like this when it mattered the most which hasn't been done since 2016 says otherwise as now they can play free and all hell is gonna break loose on poor Herky! WHOLE DIFFERENT mentality now as they now got over that hump and found out they could win a game of this importance unlike the last several years when there were teams we clearly shoulda kicked the living shit out of such as the 2 previous games against Colorado and the past couple of years against Wisconsin and Iowa as well as a Illinois, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue and others but always found a way to lose even when we had big leads. The game yesterday is a perfect example of learning how to win when it matters the most and these Seniors are gonna wanna keep it goin! People don't realize how big of a win this was for the mentally for these players as they just proved to themselves they could do it and now the sky's the limit as to say these last 2 games. Now they're gonna come out and kick the livin shit outta Iowa on Friday! Dylan is gonna rip that Chokeye secondary apart as they aren't ANYWHERE near as good as Wiscy's pass D as Sconnie before the game was ranked 8th in the country in pass D and now 13th after what we did to it!

SkulzNBonz Just Stop, clarkeye defense is very good and saying Wisconsin secondary is better make you look like idiot.

Here ya go bud, do your research as it keeps ya from looking like an idiot!

Wisconsin's pass D was ranked 10th in the country going into the game and now 13th and they've played a far and away harder schedule than the Chokeyes have. They've played Alabama, Penn St and Oregon and look how they played against the Ducks and shelled their passing game and running game while Iowa hasn't played anyone except the game they got beaten down in against tOSU. Herky is fools gold! Iowa's D is very good against nobody's only.

Apparently you didn't read my response. Herky's D is only good against nobody's as their schedule to date is pure garbage compared to Wisconsin's. The only good team they've played all year which is tOSU pounded them through the turf 35-7. Wisconsin has played a far and away tougher schedule, playing Alabama, Penn St and Oregon in which they had a real chance at winning the game shutting down their vauted passing game and offense down and held them to 1 TD and 3 FGs, something no one else has been able to do.

Wisconsin Pass D 13th against good competition
Iowa Pass D 39th against shitty competition.
