And end the season 7-5... Would you consider this season a success?

Curious on the pulse of the fan base. Been a bumpy ride with lots of missed opportunities. Pre-season I would have said 8 was the bench mark, but wins over Wisconsin, Iowa, & Colorado would put me as a yes.

Also, Illinois should have been a win. The only team that pants’ us would be Indiana and they were a buzzsaw at that point in time. Also, Rutgers ends up being a decent win too.

I never publicly predicted anything in the preseason, but fully prepared for another 5-win year, dared to get my hopes up a little when they slapped Colorado around, then feared it was another 0-for-November coming until the clock hit zeroes yesterday. So by my cynically low standard, I consider this season a success already 🤷🏻‍♂️

Everyone measures success differently.

If you picked Nebraska to win go 7-5 or worse, then you would consider it a successful season.

If you picked Nebraska go to 8-4 or better, you may consider the season a letdown.

If Nebraska finishes 7-5 with wins against Colorado and Iowa, that's definitely a successful season.

If Nebraska loses to Iowa and finishes 6-6, despite making a bowl game. I would be content but wouldn't call this year a successful season.

Why stop at 7... End the season with a bowl win and a three game winning streak. 8-5. I thought NU was an 8-9 win team. The 4 game skid was not in cards. In the history books, an 8 win season looks good.
Yup. I had us at 8 before the season. Becoming bowl eligible is a huge weight off our back. Now just finish with two wins and build off that into recruiting.

Yeah a bowl win would be nice, but I'm afraid it'll be pretty meaningless in this day and age. So much opting out by the best players and "you could tell they didn't want to be there" by the best teams. We'll have to get incredibly with whatever team we draw for it to mean much of anything

BULL DURHAM
Crash: “Are you out of your mind?”
Nuke: “I’m just talking about one time.”
Crash: “If you give in now, you might start losing. Huh? Never f— with a winning streak.”
Why it’s the best: Because EVERYONE knows you never, um, mess with a winning streak.

6 wins and a bowl game was my hopeful preseason guess, as we haven't achieved that in quite awhile. So I'm happy we're there.

If we finish 8-5 I'll be almost giddy.

at this point 8-5 seems the most acceptable which can only be achieved by,

It is a major missed opportunity because we have a very stout defensive line, and defensively(outside of the Indiana game--caused by 5 turnovers) we are a top 15 defense. Imagine having an offense as well that could ball control and manage field position and we might have had a top 10 defense. We have an elite qb, he plays much older than he is, we have been remarkably healthy, we obviously have two good backs, a good stable of wrs and a very friendly schedule. We could be 10-1 right now, should have 8 or 9 wins with the possibility of 10. The fact that the head coach had to fire his friend who has some of the worst analytics in the sports over his career just to get us to score more than 30 in a game means the season should be viewed as a disappointment. I don't really care, but I do feel for the kids...this could have been a special season if Rhule would have taken the job seriously.

The real downside is we lose our defense next year, hopefully not our coach and we have no guarantee of keeping DH, he may not even want to coach. This was the "spike" season, where you get 9-11 wins, next year with schedule will be the "dip"..unless we can buy some really high quality defensive lineman.

7-5 a success, yes it would be. Especially since it would be ending with 2 wins after a very difficult to take 4 game skid.

I thought 8-4 was going to be our final regular season record but if we beat Iowa next Friday (tall order) it would get us to 7 wins and then win a bowl game and that's 8 wins, I'll take it. I was off on the regular season total, but we do have a shot at 8 wins which would be very pleasing in my opinion.

7-5 with wins over Colorado, Wisconsin and Iowa is clearly progress on one front.

I also want the sense that we have a solid foundation for more success going forward. If they can beat Iowa, Dana is retained, we replace at least one other offense assistant, and net portal effect is positive, then we might be there.

I think you have to ask who is the OC for the bowl game?

I think we will beat Iowa.. 7-5 is progress.. 7-6, looks a little iffy.

I also had us with 8 wins with a bowl win as one of them and would definitely consider that a success for Rhule pulling this program completely out of the mud

Well, I’m not 100% sure it’s a success. But I’m 100% sure it’s progress. So I picked yes cause at this point… Clear progress is probably a success at this point in our climb back to respectability.

Should’ve, could’ve, only if we would’ve…..that’s something that nearly all of the teams and fans are thinking at this point of the year.

I think DH will be back, he wants to coach. Recall he said he was bored when asked why he decided to come here. What you laid out is looking at the negative view, there are good young DL that will grow into the role next year. Even if the D isn’t as good next year it doesn’t have to be if the offense is cranking out 44 points a game!

In year 2 of a complete rebuild: 7 wins, ending the bowl game drought, and setting things right against Colorado, Wisco, and Iowa? Yes. I would take that.

Depends on the definition of a successful season. If we really had our shit together this is a 10-2 season but 7-5 would be a significant step in the right direction and around as good as I thought we'd do going-in.

We play like we did yesterday for the final two games, we are making progress. The season is far from a success.

Progress is good though
Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm just happy to see some necessary changes and progression.....instead of no changes and regression.
