I keep thinking about a play from Sunday's game.

This play is kind of a microcosm of our team in action. It was a small, fateful goof of a type we see so often. And, yeah, runs scored that inning.

Late in the game and Altavilla (think it was him) was at third, a runner is on 3rd and a ground ball is hit to there. Altavilla comes up with the ball, takes a stab at tagging that runner, fails, then throws late to 1st. Everyone is safe. Erstad slaps the rail.

So here's the player, trying to make a double play and getting nothing. It's not an error, it's just bad baseball, bad baseball choice. I mean, the runner is held at third so just get the out, right? The out at 1st.
#baseball logic

I can't make a list of these goofs because, when they happen, we see them and set them aside but, when it happened yesterday, I thought, yeah, seen this before. So, why can't we just play clean, smart baseball?

How come DE can play clean, smart baseball but not his team? He's got those instincts, why doesn't his teams?

Just play good baseball and leave the wins and losses to pitching and hitting.
