Update:
FINAL
Creighton 5
Nebraska 3
Huskers (20-6) see their hot streak end one day after entering the top 25 of multiple national rankings. Their 10-game win streak (the second-best active streak in the country behind Louisiana's 11-game win streak) is over.
Bluejays (21-4) take Game 1 of a three-game series between the in-state rivals that will finish up with two more Tuesday games this month:
Game 2 – April 16 in Lincoln
Game 3 – April 30 in Omaha
=================================
Mid-game update:
Bluejays took a 2-0 lead on a two-run HR in the 2nd inning. They added three more in the 5th inning on an error that scored one run + a two-run single by the next batter (inning went 1B, HBP, E1 and then 1B for the two runs before back-to-back groundouts ended the frame)
Nebraska was able to cut down one run in the 3rd inning: After a one-out double, a relay throw from center fielder Riley Silva to second baseman Rhett Stokes to catcher Josh Caron cut down a Creighton runner at the plate for the first out of the inning.
The Huskers offense went down in order in the 1st and 5th innings. They stranded one runner at 2nd base w/ one out in the 2nd inning (line-drive double play), stranded runners at 1st and 2nd w/ no outs in the 3rd and then hit into an inning-ending double play in the 4th.
Official Nebraska pitching lines through 5 innings:
SP Will Walsh: 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
RP Ty Horn: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RP Caleb Clark: 0.0 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 1 ER
RP Tucker Timmerman: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
=================================
A note:
Sorry, everyone. I was locked into writing + finishing up a story that's set for tomorrow and – I'll be completely honest – forgot about tonight's BSB game. I'll have updates the rest of the way and Jonah will have a game story later this evening.
