Is it just me, or do DE lead teams consistently struggle to successfully lay down bunts? We’ve had the occasional player who seemed to have that skill set but by and large we seem to suck at it. Is teaching bunting a lost art? Is it more difficult to bunt than actually hitting the ball and we are just to accept a miserable average when we bunt? When I played high school ball our coaches spent a LOT of time instructing and practicing bunting and to be honest we were really good at it across the board nearly. I question just how much time DE must be putting into that skill or if we do know how to do it, then I question the lack of calling it. Sooooo many times we get lead off batters on and are absolutely miserable in moving them along. Tonight in the middle innings we had two on and nobody out. Didn’t move them up and instead struck out and hit into a double play. We waste so very many opportunities to score it’s become an epidemic. Sorry but if we are incapable of successfully sacrificing at the mind numbing pace we are we will continue to struggle in tight games.
