So the guy who threw the punch wasn't actually in the race, but was mad that he was asked to move from standing on the track and was retaliating for being shoved by the guy he punched. Like, "I know my rights and I can stand on this track if I want to!" The white kid declined to press charges.

Hahaha...in his defense, he probably took up track because he didn't think he'd get, you know, assaulted in track.

I really hope the asshat who did it is arrested and charged and kicked out of competitions forever. Zero tolerance for that
The whole things is crazy. What happens on a track that could possibly lead to that?

And they funny thing is, the guy that throws the punch just continues on like no one will notice. I mean, you are going to DQ, why keep running? Just stop and finish the job you started!

Wait, so the guy that threw the punch wasn't even in the race? Yikes!

Depending on who was running the meet, he might have been awarded first place a few minutes later so he could cry and let it all out. He could be the next vessel of love.

Witnesses told TMZ the altercation started when the runner leading the race first yelled at the athlete in black to move. But when the next lap came, the kid in black appeared to purposely get in the way of the runner by standing on the track, a major offense in the sport.

The runner in red then pushed his opponent out of the way and the athlete in black retaliated by chasing him down and sucker-punching him from behind.

Why they hell is he on the track if he isn’t in the race?

Any time TMZ reports on a HS track meet it can't be good.

A race officials should be have been on this after the first interaction. It's pretty common for runners to yell track when someone needs to get out of the way. According the eyewitnesses, the puncher was shoved out of the way by the runner on the prior lap. It was at this point that competent officials would have removed the kid from the infield, with possible expulsion from the meet. Instead, they let the kid hang out and he assaulted the runner the next lap.

Sounds like you're blaming officials...

That's what I read, and in another article it said he was intentionally trying to impede runners in the race. WTF is the world we live in where this race wasn't stopped and that MFer removed forcibly from the property?
No $&it.. He should have been escorted from the track and be suspended from school..

Even if he doesn't want to press charges, the State can still file them and get a conviction. In this case, they absolutely don't need the white kid's testimony, they have a video of it . . . open and shut. If a kid reacts like that to the kid pushing him out of the way the first time around the track, he's got some issues, and I'm guessing this ain't his first rodeo. Sit his ass in jail for a few weeks, fine him the max, and put him on probation for a couple years.

It is the job of the meet official to keep the track clear of obstruction and to limit access to the track and infield. A kid that failed to clear the track should have been removed from the track by officials and delivered to his coach. Where he should have gotten an ass chewing.

It's obvious the white dude started the events that followed. It isn't right for that kid to "shove" the other kid out of the road, I don't blame the black dude for cracking him, he just should have done it after the race ended.

Agreed. I've been a prosecutor and have explained many times that "it's not up to you whether I file charges."

Lol interesting spin on accountability.

It's entirely possible -- even probable -- that happened later on.
Years ago, my son was about 6 and threw a rock across the street and hit another little kid in the cheek. It wound up costing my boy about $ 70.00 of his own money to pay for the kids' office visit. So my wife finds out it happened, was so pissed when she found out, she couldn't find the "household paddle", so whipped off her sandal and whipped my son's butt.

I was at work, got home, no more than walked in the door, and my wife says, "whip his ass!" I said, "for what?" She explained, and I asked if I should just wake him up from his nap and chew his ass out. So I did.

I behaved pretty well as a kid. But even I did that. I threw a little rock really high in the air across the street....and it landed perfectly right on another kid who was running. 1 in 100 chance. He cried for a minute...but there was no real injury; it was all fine withing a few minutes. No adults found out about it...but I felt really bad and never did something like that again.
