Huskers upset #1 Purdue 88-72

I remember listening to that 1982 win at Missouri. I believe Kent Pavelka was doing PBP even back then. I remember him nearly whispering toward the end of the game to avoid pissing off the Antlers (or whatever the psycho Mizzou fans were called) and having them get violent.
One of my buddies was the grand Bullwinkle of the Antlers. The crap they pulled would get them thrown in jail today. Jungle George. He ended up owning a veterinary clinic in Las Vegas. Great guy.

did not watch because state was playing. but what an outstanding win for N. this should quiet the coaching search for another year or so. N in the tournament. ground breaking. great victory. N fans deserve a winning team.

I think Fred has figured it out to a certain extent. He has found a good mesh of players and has started to go away from the guys that just want to get points and that's it. The last two years the teams have been gritty, but more than anything they all play together. You can have a guy with an off night and still win as everyone contributes. That wasn't the case early on, but glad he has figured it out. I like the direction he is headed after he made the shift. This years team appears to be mentally tough and ready to roll. You are still going to have off nights, but so far this team just seems different.

In addition, and I have said this several times before, people should not underestimate the change in the assistant coaching staff. They are much more competent than what we had. Hoiberg has upped his game the past 2 years, but not enough credit goes to the rest of the staff.

I have stated my fanship for this program had ended but I am glad for you hangers on that you got something worth coddling for a change.

When people say they are no longer a fan of a program, I can never figure out why they then show up in a thread about said program. You’re no longer a fan, so don’t show up in a thread about it, go fúck off somewhere else and spend time on something that does interest you.

Is that the way your parents raised you to speak?

In response to your question, I will be playing the part of my father in the following reply.

“ You need to stop being a whiny little bitch and shitting all over everyone else’s joy. If other people’s happiness bothers you, then you should go sit in a room by yourself, because nobody wants to deal with your bullshit.”

There's just no way, in the format of a written message board forum, to express just how much I like this post. One, single solitary laughing emoji just doesn't do it. Well done sir!

That explains it.

This should be copy/paste for a few others on this board. Thanks for saying what needed to be said.

Dude, they are starting to stack up Quad 1 wins now, and will likely be favored in every remaining home game. If they won those last 7 home games and won 4 games on the road, you're not talking about a bubble team, you're talking about a team that will finish 14-6 in the league and a top 4 or 5 seed in the tournament.

Needless to say, they don't need to win 4 road games. IMO, they need to find 2 on the road to be safe.

More importantly, they need to avoid losing home games to the following teams:

- Minnesota
- Penn State
- Northwestern
- Michigan
- Rutgers

I think if they win those 6, find a way to knock of Ohio State and Wisconsin at home, they will absolutely have enough Quad 1 wins to secure a berth with a 1 or 2 on the road.

The good scheduling news for them the rest of the season is even road games at bad teams would only be a Quad 2 loss.
IF we hope to win a dance game we really need to draw a good seed. Sneaking in won’t help.

Pavelka had the best radio cast that night in '82 that I have ever heard. I still remember pacing in our dining room as the minutes ticked off. I think Horny and Stipanovich were on that MU team. I believe we had Hoppen and maybe Stan Cloudy. The Antlers poured beer all over Kent, but he kept up the fandom. Great memories.

I'm glad he got a second chance to call a victory over. #1 even if it was 40+ years later.

Jon Sundvold, Ricky Frazier and Steve Stipanovich were their studs. Sundvold could shoot from St Louis. It seems like Stipo got in foul trouble or was nursing an injury or something.

Everyone who coaches can be a great coach if they are in the right place at the right time for their skillset. Barry Collier was a great coach at Butler, not here. Doc was a great coach at UA-Fort Smith. Not here. Hoiberg was awesome in Ames, not here until yesterday. Coach Hoiberg, in year whatever this is, (four?) made Lincoln the right place and time for his skillset by finally recruiting a bunch of dudes that could run sets and play defense in a way that plays to his ability to draw up sets and coach defense. Further, this group of guys trusts Fred enough to stay in a particular gameplan without going LeRoy Jenkins out there.
As for me, I was a pretty good high school reserve level basketball coach for a short time as well. That was also the extent of my skillset. So this line of thinking holds true up and down the ranks.

I didn’t say anything about being a bubble team.

You echoed my sentiments about winning at home. They have some tough home games and I don’t think they go undefeated.

They haven’t proved they can win on the road. 0-8 is possible but not likely but I see 3 possible road wins..
