Do you think Newby is basically going to get the pine at this point? If so, were the coaches just riding observations regarding the RBs from fall camp and now that they have seen enough live action they are ready for a change?

There must be some off-the-field vibe, practice issues, or something else going on here. On the field, Newby has looked pretty solid.

I wouldn't have chosen "solid" to describe his efforts, maybe "tentative". JMO

The funny thing is, Newby looks like he gets after it in his pass blocking; it would serve him well to run with the same mindset that he has when he is blocking.

Was just going to post something on this. I am just not at all happy that Wilbon isn't getting touches.
I'd like to see him too. However, if the reports are true that he doesn't pick-up the blitz very well, him being in there would get TA hurt.

So don't have him in the game on slow developing plays and don't have him in on 3rd and long (which seems to be happening quite a bit). Or, put together a few packages for him. When asked why they didn't run it more often, Langsdorf said, in part, that NU was too inconsistent; it would have a nice gain, only to follow it up with a 3 yard loss. Wilbon will undoubtedly give them a more consistent and effective running game. We've got some nice RB's, but none of them are the threat the Wilbon is. We are hamstringing ourselves by keeping him on the sideline.

In my opinion this is a bit of a cop out. Newby may be better, but every back I have seen in there has done alright in pass pro. There have been no "olays" at this point. Put in the better runner and make ourselves multidimensional.

At this point, pass pro is going out the window to find a viable threat at RB. If Wilbon hadn't pouted and burned bridges earlier in the year he would be seeing playing time but that is unlikely to happen now.

Newby should be a slot receiver. Doesn't have a running back mentality. He actually reminds me of Jamal Turner returning punts. Hesitates so much that the play is over before he decides what to do.

I'm not privy to what happened, but it better have been pretty bad to keep him off the field. A. Lewis can act like a total jackass and stay a captain and on the field, but Wilbon gets totally shut down?

Everythings speculation until facts show face. With that said MW has something else besides pass protection going on.

Thanks...if he's not getting running back reps why not. Who knows what could happen.

I love his attitude and work ethic but he just isn't going to be productive at RB. I hope he finds a good way to contribute as he finishes his career at NU.

Depends who else is around. There really isn't a good backup option for Lewis - at RB we have some options.

I get that, but if that is the difference then it puts the staff in a bad light
People made way too big of a deal out of Lewis's immature little act out. He works his ass off. He plays hard and he's a good teammate. So he did something immature and silly after a gut wrenching loss. I guarantee you that there were thousands of Husker fans saying and doing worse things after that last TD than he did. Some of it on this message board.

Act out? It been numerous act out moments now. I've heard some additional notes that indicate he may not be as good of a team mate as you think. It's obvious simply from games he has had some words with Gates. Lest we forget this guy is a captain. That's not the kind of example a captain should set.

Langsdorf said this week, that he wasn't going to just 'shelve him' (Newby), but that there were a few plays/packages for him.. the way I took it, except for those plays, they are basically shelving him.

Yupper. I'm pumped to see Oz get more carries. I really liked what I was seeing against Illinois.

Oh I agree 100%.. My 70 year old dad even called me during the game last week to remark about him specifically.. he was going on and on about how he had tree trunks for legs and how well he was running.

Should be fun to watch. Lots of people claimed he was going to end up being a steal last year when he committed to us. The early returns look promising.

Gates also came out and said the Lewis is a good guy and helps him with technique.

Does it mean they are best buds, probably not, but if we lack any sort of options if Lewis were gone, that does present a unique situation.

In all honesty, I would be cool with Riley coming out and saying "hey due to injuries and insubordination, this year is a lost year. I'm booting half a dozen guys off the team and playing with the holes in the lineup with guys that are all N." But I don't know the people calling for Riley's head, are necessarily going to be cool with him calling it a season.

I haven't heard of any other problems with Lewis. Cav says he loves the kid and that he works his ass off. Good nuf for me. I do seem to recall the Peter boys having some dust ups with teammates and off the field stuff. Raiola ranked right up there with Incognito with some of his actions. I would take a half dozen Raiolas or Peters on this team right now. Let the coaches worry about the discipline. He's an extremely emotional guy and his little deal Saturday was juvenile but not that big of a deal.

Yeah...until he runs into the back of his blocker just to the right or left of a gaping hole...for the 10th or 11th straight time. Dude has no vision.

This, I think we've seen enough of IC to know he doesn't have the quicks and doesn't use his bulk the way one would like to see.
