Holgerson Will Call Plays

Was music to my ears as I drove to golf course..

Don’t expect great improvement for the first game but it sure as hell can’t get any worse..
Well yeah it can’t probably get worse than the IU game but Satt called a better game against OSU. It could be a real train wreck this Saturday.

Huskers site says he's the OC.
Satterfield is gone and virtually everybody connected to the program was surprised that Dana was named OC so quickly. Satt is a dead man walking.

I dunno.. I guess we will see what ends up being permanent and what doesn't. We know what will happen for the next 3 games, but after that, I don't know that anything has been finalized

Anyone thinking that we will see any immediate improvement is fooling themselves. USC might struggle early as offensive tendencies will now be broken. But the jimmys and joes are the same so likely by half we will be back on the struggle bus. Maybe it will be enough to help us eek out a win, but I doubt it.

I think we do have talent.. we might struggle for the first half, but I'm actually expecting the offense to freaking come alive.

I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment. How many times over the last decade have you/us fallen into that trap? We are who we know we are....... Dysfunctional! And that's putting it lightly.

No way does a coach come in during game week, take over the OC without knowing personnel and the schematics of what's been practiced for 2 years, and suddenly turn this team into a respectable offense. NO WAY!

Our OL will still suck and our WRs will still not block, etc etc etc
DH probably won’t be a miracle worker, but he might be better navigating around our numerous flaws.
This could be..... Maybe...Just maybe, we will find a few things that work, and gulp!!!!!! keep doing them! That would be worth the 1.4M that we are wasting on Satterfield right?

Or at least stop doing the things that don't work.

If we run 60 offensive plays a game, and 6 of those are non-productive jet sweeps and lateral passes to Fidone while eliminating, we eliminate 10% of the offensive woes in one swipe. That gives NU 6 alternative plays that may be productive.

Maybe we even put the QB under center on 3rd short instead of the shotguy. Revelation.
How about play action off that formation, I believe that's been done before in the game of football. There is so much shit in this offense to be cleaned up.

DH to WR coach Maguire. "Tell your WR's the first time I see them half-assing or dogging their routes, I'm parking their ass on the bench. First time I see them not make a block that has to be made to make a play go, or not giving a maximum effort, I'm parking their ass on the bench. Think you can give them that message?"

"This is my expectation and the accountability Coach Rhule talks about and what we're always talking about. It starts today. If my fingerprints are on this offense, that's how it's gonna be."

You don't have to be a prick to be a good coach, you just gotta tell 'em how it is.

Remember, we lost the ILL game on 1 bad throw from DR. The offense put us in position to win on a FG, but the dude missed it. They also had a wide open Barney (or Neyor or Banks, cant remember) that DR underthrew to win the OSU game. DR threw a pick 6 that basically lost us the UCLA game.

3 plays. Im exaggerating slightly, but you get the point.

So, a guy coming in that maybe calls a couple things differently could be all that is needed. Shit, even Satt had the right plays in each of those scenarios. We just failed to close them out.

As bad as our offense is statistically, it still can win us games.

Will it? no idea. I have my doubts, but we just need a little more and we win these games. Its maddening.

It's a tall order given our talent, but never underestimate the ability of a creative, experienced playcaller to set the defense up 4-5 times a game.

I would almost bet they will take Fidone or one of the TE's in the slot and hit him uncovered on the opposite hash mark. Those are the type of plays that have been missing for 1 3/4 years.

There could be a sense of excitement by the offensive team if they see some creative stuff that catches the defense off guard in practice. If they don't seem interested in new things, they could examine their feelings on the bench.

We all expect some busts on some plays, that's gonna happen to the best of teams. But, we also should hope that the new blood on offense can somehow energize an otherwise dead offense. If the defense could rise up and play lights out, who's to say the Huskers can't eke out a win?

I don't expect a win, but at least I feel we have some hope. With the mid week turmoil, we can only hope, I've used that word hope 4 times now. An unexpectant win could easily propel NU to a win next week then NU could be looking at 7-4 heading into Iowa. That would be a great turnaround.

plenty of precedent for a new coach dead cat bounce

just look at the Saints 2 days ago

I don't watch the NFL, but the NU offense has been dead in the water for weeks now.
It's obvious the BIG defenses have "the book" on the Satt offense.

DH's background as a play caller, he will, as Hayden Fry used to say, "scratch where it itches."

A modern version was TO's unspoken,
"If you can't stop it, we're gonna run it til the cows come home."
And you don't just talk about it, you do it.

One huge thing I notice from DH’s history.. he had better numbers when just an OC and not the HC as well.

Maybe that’s his niche, running the O.

We shall see. I know he will probably pick out the plays he likes from the current offense but I bet they installed a handful of his mesh plays that he loves. With Barney and Lloyd, those will work great.
