Assuming Dana stays IF either McGuire or Satterfield stay, it's because Dana wants them to stay. What's encouraging is that maybe McGuire CAN do the job for the right OC. I don't have a problem with Satt staying as TE coach IF that's what Dana wants but I suspect he'll want a fresh start somewhere else.Right conditions:

Reading between the lines, I can’t help but come to the conclusion that Maguires unit does not respect him at some level. Either he’s not holding them accountable to blocking on the perimeter or he’s not emphasizing it very much. If I am DH, I’d get to the bottom of that. I don’t think any response to those questions is going to be acceptable. I can’t see either one of those guys staying, IF Dana stays. Not saying he’s made some digs at Satt, but a couple comments come to mind. When talking about coaches that fall in love with one player (Fidone), and the playbook being way too thick. Coaches get all wrapped up in their playbook, and they forget the most important part - the execution during practice and gamedays. That's what it sounded like the problem was to me. And DH was able to immediately come in and focus on the execution aspect. Yep, thought about his buy-out numbers from Houston as well. Not sure what would work other than the incentives having complete control and allowing him to dump and hire whoever he wants.He is still getting paid from Houston for the next 4 years.

Giving him complete control of the offense and offensive staff is a no brainer. For example his WR Coach at WVU is now at UNC and could be looking for a job. If he wants that guy, or any offensive position coach, let him have him.
I also wonder about non-monetary contract incentives. Could we give him a house, country club memberships, etc. Contract law guys would have to help me out with this one. Would that work, or does the value of those things count against the money paid by UH making it pointless?

I would prefer to see Ron Brown coaching tight ends and wide receivers.

He belongs as a coach on a middle school team. Running around patting guys on the ass and saying "Let's go guys", isn't exactly coaching. That's what cheerleaders are for.
Garrett's probably a smart, really nice young man. But, can you see any serious football coach like Saban, Meyer, Smart having this kid working with such an important position group?

Recruiting 16-18 year old high school kids might be a high level skill for a “teenage coach,” but we also need to hit the portal every year for grown men and coach up what should already be a top notch skill set. The latter need is where he obviously failed this year. Not sure about his recruiting but we have obviously needed better receivers even if we blame other players (Raiola, the line etc) for some of their failings.From day one they've built up how McGuire is close to the same age as the players. You aren't sneaking stuff in and giving him a house. This is all pretty standard stuff in football these days. This is going to be a somewhat unique situation with a former HC with a big buyout going to an OC. I don't know how we work this out. Houston has the upper hand and there is no incentive for them to negotiate. Kind of like Carolina and Rhule. Only thing I can think of is some kind of huge buyout if he's fired and no penalty for leaving on his own. So he has a guaranteed cushion. Maybe throw in a 4th year? Kind of unprecedented but WTH, why not? We've spent money on worse.

Losing Hill and cooper leaving have hurt our secondary. Hartzhog just don't have the size to be a good db.While DH/offense will get most of the conversation and rightly should for now - the defense hasn’t exactly been playing at an “elite championship level”. Need more talent including coaching all over this program.

Just because DH is a football genius and can turn things around quickly doesn't excuse the subpar coaching acumen we've seen on the offensive side of the ball this year.If the Wisconsin game is indicative of what he can do with our current talent he already has the right conditions. If he is able to go move the ball up and down the field against Iowa and in a bowl game then see below.
-He has a QB with first round arm talent, million dollar head that loves to play football (probably the most important condition)
-He has a HC that will turn that side of the ball completely over to him and get the hell out of the effing way
-He is at a school that loves football, has resources and a great salesman in Rhule that will be able to sell DR/DH combination to ensure he has enough supplemental talent around (particularly if we look good on offense rest of season)
If he thinks an assistant (not related to our QB) is holding things back I think that is about an 8 second conversation with him and Rhule. He has also seen this group of assistants execute his game plan very well in less than three weeks which indicates to me that Satterfield was 95% the problem not anything the assistant where doing at the position group level.
If the rest of the season plays out with Raiola looking like he did last Saturday then I think we are good. With what he would have returning and what the preacher Rhule will be able to bring in selling DH/DR for two years he would have as much or more talent than he has ever had including the year at Okie Lite where they lead NCAA in total yardage.
No way he folds this hand if DR is here as things he can do at NU could be legacy changing for him.

Thinking outside the box, I like it. My suggestion was to do a graduated salary increase so that by year 3 or 4, his salary would be competing with his buyout. It shows we value him and we're serious about keeping him if we're willing to commit the resources concomitant with an elite level coordinator. But I like your suggestion even better.Thanks.
